Summary of Blended Coal Feeding- Performance Comparison


The blending of Indonesian and Australian coal was started on 08 May 2016. The feeding ratio is 55.4 % of Indonesian and
44.6 % of Australian coal. The blended coal was fed to all the units. The blended coal analysis for 10 days is

The Performance Test of Unit IV was conducted on 21 May 2016 with blended coal of 57.39 % Indonesian
and 42.61 % of Australian Coal.

IM : 13.14% , TM : 28.40% , Ash : 5.07% , VM : 30.86% , FC : 35.67 % , GCV : 4760 kcal/kg

There is a benefit of 2.95% improvement in Boiler Efficiency with blended coal GCV of 4760 kcal/kcal
when compared with Indonesian coal GCV of 4114 kcal/kg

a. There is an improvement of 72.6kcal/kwh with firing of blended coal when compared with Indonesian
coal.
b. Increased losses in Vacuum due to high ambient temperature effect is 12.95 kcal/kwh, otherwise the
SHR would be 2436.59kcal/kwh
c. SHR calculation with heat loss method is 2449.54 kcal/kwh but station heat rate (2613.4kcal/kwh)
by coal loss method is more by 163.86 kcal/kwh. Difference is due to coal feeder measurement
accuracy and coal losses in handling. Average difference should be normally below 50kcal/kwh.

There is a reduction of 0.0.21 % in BTG auxiliary power consumption when blended coal of 4760 kcal/kg is fired when
compared to 4114 kcal/kg coal and optimization of process parameters.

CONCLUSION: Benefits with blended coal
