This document contains 6 questions from a statics tutorial on levers, couples, forces and load analysis. Question 1 asks to determine the magnitude and direction of a force applied to a lever given moment values. Question 2 involves finding the couple created by tension in a cord around pegs and forces on rods. Question 3 requires determining the resultant force and its intersection point for given forces on a fixture. Questions 4-6 involve calculating load resultants, force values, angles and reactions for systems involving loads, springs and cables on foundations and brackets.

A force P is applied to the lever of an arbor press. Knowing that P lies in a
plane parallel to the yz plane and that Mx = 2.6 N.m, My = -23 N.m, and Mz = -4 N.m, determine the magnitude of P and the values of ϕ and θ.
Question 2
Two 6-cm-diameter pegs are mounted on a steel plate
at A and C. And two rods are attached to the plate at B and D. A cord is passed around the pegs and pulled as 29 cm shown, while the rods exert on the plate 11.1 N forces as indicated. (a) Determine the resulting couple acting on the plate when T = 40 N. (b) If only the cord is used, 38.6 cm in what direction should it be pulled to create the same couple with the minimum tension in the cord? (c) Determine the value of that minimum tension.
Question 3
Fixture ABCD is used to apply forces to photoelastic models of
mechanical components. For the model and forces shown, determine when α = 50o (a) the resultant of the applied forces, (b) the point where the line of action of the resultant intersects a line drawn through points F and G. Prepared by: Ms. SR Rohim 5th August 2010 Question 4
A concrete foundation mat in the shape of a regular hexagon with 3
m sides supports four column loads as shown. Determine the magnitude and the point of application of the resultant of the four loads.
Question 5
23 mm The required force to be exerted at A by lever ABC is
16 N. Knowing that the stretched spring exerts a 53 N force at C, determine (a) the value of α, (b) the reaction at B.

Question 6
A movable bracket is held at rest by a cable attached at C and
by frictionless rollers at A and B. For the loading shown, determine (a) the tension in the cable, (b) the reactions at A and B.
