Situation
It became apparent that there were some
social issues happening between students
in my class. These issues were mostly taking
place outside the classroom during recess
or lunch but were beginning to leak into the
classroom. Students were feeling bullied
and/ or hurt by the actions of some
students.
Action plan:
Continue the PATHS program in the class to build students social and emotional skills.
Action
As part of the PATHS program that I
introduced into the classroom, there is an
option to have a class mailbox. Students are
able to send mail to me to discuss any
issues that they are having or inform me of
anything that is happening that makes them
feel unsafe.
Outcome
Students used the mailbox to inform me of
a particular incident that was effecting
several students in the classroom. Through
this information the staff were able to
address the problem and help students
work through the issue.
Using the mail box made students more
comfortable to speak up about issues they
were facing that they werent sure how to
handle.
