Rice is one or Asia's most deeply revered and treasured crops. It is central to the Asian way of life. The Culture
spirituality tradions and norms. Rice constitutes the staple food of three billion Asians. which is half the world's Population.
Rice has been growe in Asia for the last 7000 years.
RICE INFUTURE HANDS
Agriculture is a sector where our children are effectively denied education which blights their future. It is necessary
to introduce. agriculture in the schools so that future of this country will be in safe hands. Ourability to improve lives
depends on a crucial characteristic - genetic diversity. The legacy of our country. We have to create a legacy for the future
of our children and their children, ensuring a better
quality of life for all.
RICE DEVERSITY
India had a host of rice varieties, the versatility in climate, soil, topography and method of cultivation in our
Country has made, it a souice of diversity in rice. There is also a significant inter specificdiversity includes dry & wetland,
Medicinal aromatic deepwater and so on that are of importance in terms of their genetic value.
DEEPWATERRICE
The Varada basin is a host for deepwater rice varieties. Which can with stand flooded fields for nearly a month.
These varieties are still being. grown in this area as modern highlyeiding varieties. cannot survive in the climatic conditions
prevalent in this area.
MADCNAL RICE
India has a rich diversity of rice especially madicine rice varieties. Unfortunately the entire genetic resources are
getting extinct, as the Crop species are no longer cultivated. Reviving and restoring this valuable resource is most
important, test we lose this wonderful Culfural heritage.
RICE AND WOMEN
Rice and women are inseparable. Women intralitional societies. say that rice is more than life to them. They treat
rice as their monther and take care of her. Moreover rice provide a livelihood and Sustenance to women more than any
other crop in india. Women believe that if we poison our mother our future would be in danger. .
RICE CULTURE
Rice means life it has been the cornerstone of our food, systems Our languages, Our Cultures and Our livelihoods
for thousands of years. Rice which is considered. the epitome of sacredness is rooted in all festivals and rituals and a
celebration either when the crop is being planted or harvested.
RCEAS FOOD
Rice can be eaten raw and also in processed forms. There are different varieties of rice which can be made in to
different delicacies, each with Special qualities. When high yielding varieties were introduced to increase productivity,
farmers lost many of their local seeds which lead to erosion of food diversity and to many healthdisorders.
RICE ASFODEER
Farmers in South India believe that paddy is for the household fodder is for the cattle and the roots are for the soil.
cattle is part of the household. Famers used to Cultivate certain varieties of paddy mainly of feed the cattle. When short
statured varieties of rice were introduced farmers experienced todder shortage and many termers had to sell their cattle. -
RCE SAVERS
inspite of all the diffeculties, paddy farmers continue to cultivate and save paddy and ensure food Security of the
Country. They continue to save local seed and thus maintain a good germplasm for future generations without any support
from the government.
FARMERS ARE BREEDEES
Our traditional varieties are the products of millions of yeras where informers have developed varieties that have
evolved through their experiences, practices and undersytanding. Farmer scientists like Shankargure, Debul Das,
Linamadaiah, rajendra and so on have developed rice varieties which are performed better than high yielding varieties.

A rare traditional art form in the malnad region is the paddy festoon. Making these decorative pieces from paddy
straw is an exacting process. Chandarashekar and family have expanded their repertoire and have blended both modern
and traditional patterns to Create unique and ethinic items.
