Clarinet Lesson Plan

Parts of the Clarinet:


Mouthpiece, Reed, Ligature, Barrel, Upper Section, Tone
Hole Rings, Bridge Keys, Lower Section, Bell

Instrument Assembly:
1. Put reed in mouth to get wet so it is easier to put on mouthpiece.
2. Put the Reed on mouthpiece without touching tip because the reed is very
thin so it can rip easily.
3. Attach the barrel to the mouthpiece.
4. Attach upper section to the barrel.
5. Attach lower section to the upper section
6. Attach the bell.

Holding the Instrument:


1.Sit up straight on the edge of your chair.
2. Place right thumb under the thumb rest.
3. Hold clarinet in front of you between your knees.
4. Curve your fingers slightly but keep your wrists straight.
5. Make sure elbows are away from your body.

Creating an Embouchure:
1. Put mouthpiece in your mouth.
2. Make sure top lip is over bottom lip.
3. Rest top teeth on mouthpiece slightly.
4. Make sure chin is flat and pointed.

Breath Support/ Producing First Tone:


1.Take a deep breath of air and blow gently.

Playing the First Three Pitches:


E, D, C

Ear Training / Echo Playing


See if you can find the pitch Im playing; echo me, etc.

Care of the Instrument:


1. Swab the clarinet with the linen after every time you use it to get your spit
out.
2. Put reed carefully away into the separate holder because it can rip easily and
break.
