Chapter 1: Advent of a National Hero

Jose Protacio Rizal Mercado Alonzo Y Alonzo Realonda was born on Calamba, laguna on
June 19, 1861 and baptized on June 22, 1861 by Father Rufino Collantes and his Godfather is
Father Pedro Casaas. His nickname is Pepe and known as a greatest Filipino hero and peerless
genius. Jose was chosen by his mother who was a devotee of the Christian saint St. Joseph.
Protacio from Gervacio P. that comes from a Christian calendar. Mercado adopted in 1731 by
Domingo Lamco the paternal great-great-grandfather of Rizal. Alonzo old surname of his mother.
Realonda used by Doa Teodora from the surname of her godmother. Rizals Father was
Francisco Engracio Mercado Rizal Mercado Y Alejandra II born in Bian, Laguna on May 11,
1818. He was the youngest of the 13 children of Cirila Alejandro and Juan Mercado. He married
the Teodora Morales Alonzo Realonda Y Quinos mother of jose on June 28, 1848. Teodara was
born on November 9, 1827. She was the 2nd child of Lorenzo Alonzo and Brigida de Quintos and
she was also the first Teacher of Rizal. Rizal siblings was Saturnina, Paciano, narcisa, Olympia,
Lucia, Maria, Jose, concepcion, Josefa, Trinidad and Soledad. Rizals Paternal Ancestry was
Domingo lamco, the great-great grandfather and married Ines Dela Rosa. Francisco Mercado,
Domingo lamcos son. Juan Mercado, Francisco Mercados son married Cirila Alejandro.
Francisco Mercado Rizals father, son of Juan Mercado. Rizals Maternal Ancestry was Lakan
Dula, descendant. Eugenio Ursua, great-great grandfather of Rizal married Benigna. Regina,
daughter of Eugenio married Manuel de Quintos. Brigida , mother of Teodora and married Lorenzo
Alberto.
Chapter 2: Childhood Years in Calamba
The town of Rizal is Calamba. When he was 15 on 1876, he wrote a poem Un Recuerdo
A Mi pueblo (In Memory of My Town). Aya was the nurse maid of Rizal. The first sorrow of
rizal is Concepcions Death on 1865. At the age of 3, he was joining family prayers and at the age
of 5, he knew haltingly the Spanish Family bible and made sketches. His dog was named Usman
Rizal respect the town priest which is father Leoncio Lopez. Jose and his father went to Our Lady
of Antipolo on June 6, 1868. Whn he was 8 years old he wrote his first foem written in tagalog
Sa Aking Mga Kababata. Rizal was paid 2 pesos by the Gobernadorcillo of Paete, Laguna for
the manuscript of his first drama. Rizal Uncles who helps in his development is Gregorio in reading
books, Jose for artistic ability and Manuel to develop his frail body.
Chapter 3: School Days in Bian
The 3 Formal Teacher of Rizal is Maestro Celestino who was his private tutor, Maestro
Lucas Padua who was his 2nd private tutor and Maestro Leon Monroy who was his Spanish and
Latin tutor. Rizal goes to Bian with his brother Paciano on June 1869. Rizal lodged to his Aunts
house with his cousin Leandro using the Carromata a mode of transportation in Bian. During his
1st day in Bian School, Maestro Justiano Aquino Cruz became his formal teacher. Rizal together
with Jose Guevarra was given a free lesson of painting and Sculpture from old Juancho. Rizal
became the best student in Bian. Doa Teodora was arrested on a malicious charge that she aided
his brother Jose Alberto in trying to poison his wife. On January 20, 1872 Cavite mutiny flared up
followed by the execution of Fr. Mariano Gomez, Father Jose Burgos and Father Jacinto Zamora.
The novel El Filibusterismo was dedicated to GOMBURZA and published in Ghent during 1891.
Chapter 4: Triumphs in Ateneo
The San Juan de Letran College is owned by Dominican. A charity school for poor boy in
Manila is Ateneo Municipal is known as Escuela Pia and established on 1817 and became Ateneo
de Manila. Rizal took and passed the exam in San Juan de Letran but he enrolled in Ateneo when
he came back to Manila. Rizal was refused in ateneo because he was late in enrollment and was
sickly but Manuel Xerez Burgos helped him. Rizal paid a boarding house rent for 300 pesos who
was owned by Titay. Jesuit System was advance than other college because they were given a
splendid Professor to help the student builds the students character and become a religious and
also promotes physical culture, humanities and scientific studies. Aside from that they also offers
vocational courses in agriculture, commerce, mechanics and surveying thats why they became an
excellent college for boys. There are two groups of students: the Roman Empire which is the
internos/boarders had a Red Flag and a Carthaginian Empire which is the externos/non-boarders
that had a Blue flag. There are also % rank in academics which is the Emperor, Tribune, Decurion,
Centurion, and Standard Bearer. The official uniform of Ateneo students is Rayadillo.
