Opening speech for Galmun 2017

Honorable chairpersons, distinguished delegates, fellow guests.

I am now standing in front of you honorably representing the French position regarding the status of
non self governing territories. This delegate will most certainly endeavour to assist in reaching a
successful resolution for all the inhabitants of non self govering teritorries and their administrative
powers, bearing in mind at all times the interests of all the french citizens. We are not here today to
fight over land nor are we here to carve up the worlds map once again. In fact we are here to instill
freedom and protect the rights of all human beings thus making the world a better place.

The delegate of France is open to any solution provided that the inhabitants of the territories in
disscution obtain a long-term positive result. Our country is based on equality and a strong national
identity, feeling and being safe inside the territory you were born. Our national priorities hold the
french citizen regardless of the status of the region where he lives, at the highest level making no
discrimination whatsoever and we will fight at an international scale if the rights of the people living
under the administration of a metropolis are denied.

We must remember though, history has shown us that independence is not always a viable solution,
too many former colonies are now facing extreme poverty and in some cases they are still
subjugated by a modern, disguised form of colonialism. May we start looking at a world outside of
the narrow limits as it is the only way we are going to make a difference.

Thank you.
