Drager GS Machine Check

Machine Turned Off
1. Ambu Bag, Bugie, Code Cart
2. Disconnect Wall source of oxygen. Oxygen pipeline pressure should be zero.
3. Check cylinder pressures. Do not flush O2 after 2nd tank.
4. Check vaporizer agent level and fill. Check Vaporizer locks and interlocks
5. Close all flowmeters
6. Low pressure leak test

Machine Turned On
1. Check that all start up machine tests on the machine's screen "pass"
2. Turn on the oxygen and nitrogen flows to 5L/min. Check the Fail Safe Mechanism and the Oxygen Supply
Alarm.
3. Turn off all flows.
4. Connect wall oxygen
5. Calibrate Oxygen Sensor to room air
6. Press oxygen flush until Oxygen sensor reads >90%
7. Flowmeters: check for smooth bobbin movement over the entire flowmeter range
8. Proportioning System: O2 to N2O ratio should be 1:3; confirm
9. Visually inspect anesthesia circuit for potential leaks. Check coloration of anesthesia cicuit.
10. High Pressure Leak Test
a) Position selector to bag
b) Close APL valve
c) Confirm flowmeter valves turned off
d) Occlude outlet at Y piece
e) Pressurize circuit to 30cmH2O using O2 flush valve, observe for 10 seconds
f) Open APL to decompress circuit
11. Scavenger Check
a) APL open, Y connector occluded. Pressure needs to be no less than 2-3 cmH2O
b) Press O2 flush valve and confirm pressure less than < 14 cmH2O
12. Mechanical Vent
a) attach artificial lung = extra bag
b) Set vent parameters: RR, I:E, insp flow, TV, insp pressure limit
c) select mechanical vent: observe bellows, pressures, volume
d) Increase O2 flow to 5L/min to make sure peak pressures do not increase significantly
13. Select Manual Vent: observe one way valves, bag to bag air movement
14: Final Position: set ventilation parameters to fit patient, open APL, attach mask, O2 to 0

Between cases:
1. Gas flows off
2. Circuit high pressure leak test
3. Absorbent check
4. Breathing circuit and sampling line for leaks
5. Alarms and parameters reset then standby

End of Day:
1. Machine, suction, monitors, gases OFF
