Supplemental Installation Instructions for the

SmartClass Ethernet Download Manager Version 3.0.1

Problem:
The Version 3.0.0 and 3.0.1 SmartClass Ethernet Download Managers use a
third-party serial communication driver to transfer data between your PC
and your SmartClass Ethernet tester. Due to an error recently discovered in
the driver, some file transfer operations will not work. As a result, software
upgrades may fail.

Solution:
To fix this problem, you must remove the new version of the driver (if it is
installed), and replace it with an older, more reliable version. To do this,
determine which of the following scenarios applies, and then follow the
applicable steps:

Scenario A: I have not installed version 3.0.0 or 3.0.1 of the SmartClass

Ethernet Download Manager on my PC yet.

In this case, you can install the Download Manager but you must not install
the serial communication driver!

Step 1: Follow the instructions for installing the Download Manager

provided on this site, but click Cancel when you are prompted to install the
driver:

The new driver will not be installed.

Step 2: Install the working serial communication driver by running the
InstallSerialDriver.exe executable that appears with the Download
Manager Installation executable on this site.

You are now ready to use the SmartClass Ethernet Download Manager, and
the correct driver is installed.

Scenario B: I already installed the SmartClass Ethernet Download

Manager version 3.0.0 or 3.0.1 on my PC, and I installed the new driver.

In this case, you must remove the new serial communication driver.

Step 1: On your PC desktop, select Start
Control Panel then double

click Add or Remove Programs:

Step 2: Locate the entry for Silicon Laboratories CP210x USB to UART
Bridge (Driver Removal):

Step 3: If you find this entry, select it, and then click Change/Remove.

If this entry does not appear in the list, close this screen, close the Control
Panel, skip Steps 4 and 5, and proceed to Step 6.

Step 4: Click Uninstall.

Step 5: If a dialog box appears asking whether you want to restart your
computer, save any data that you are working on, close any open
applications, and then click Yes to restart the computer.

Step 6: After the computer restarts, install the working serial

communication driver by running the InstallSerialDriver.exe executable
that appears with the Download Manager Installation executable on this site.

You are now ready to use the SmartClass Ethernet Download Manager, and
the correct driver is installed.
