 ABSTRACT

This research examined the effects of westernization on the Filipino standard of beauty. It

also determined if some Filipinos still prefer the native brand of beauty. The data was gathered

through qualitative semi-structured interviews and questionnaires. We use the semi-structured

interviews to know the effect of having beauty standards on the attitude and behavior of

Generation Z Filipinos. The respondents of the study are the 120 students of college of Science

with the age of 17-19 years old. The data was tallied and tabulated using mean to get the

percentage of each answer.

Results showed that the Western Beauty truly dominate and influence us Filipinos when it comes

to beauty standards. But still, some Filipinos prefer the native (Austronesian) beauty that we

have from the start. It also showed that there are negative effects of Westernization on the

Filipinos standard of beauty.
