The Reformation Protest

In the sixteenth century, there cried out a protest in the Western World. That is, the

demand of less Church and more of Christ! Let religious life be less subject to canon law, to the

pope, and more effectively subject to God. (Congar, 138) The Reformation Protest led to the

separation of two opposing set of beliefs. It caused the split of the Western Church. This great

schism between the Catholic Church and the Protestant Church as started by Martin Luther, led

to the questionable and doubtful belief in the ancient tradition which the Roman Church believed

to be the source of revelation. Though in earlier times, Reformers still consider traditions if they

go with the teachings of Sacred Scriptures, they emphasized on their teachings the primacy and

supremacy of Scriptures over the Sacred Traditions of the Church. They believe that traditions

are works of men and may err in their principles and doctrines. The Protestant Reformers, by

believing so, has become the Religion of the Book.
