This research looked into the use of CourseSites in teaching L2 writing among
semester 1 Diploma in Teaching as a Second Language (TESL) students in Kolej
Universiti Poly-Tech MARA (KUPTM). It was a research on the use of CourseSites in
giving online feedback and its impact on students writing performance, students
attitude towards online feedback and the challenges that they faced when using
CourseSites in L2 writing course. The sample was fifty (50) Diploma in TESL
students which was divided into the control group and the experimental group. Two
instruments were utilised in this research which were pretest and posttest and
questionnaire. The data was analysed using Statistical Package for Social Sciences
(SPSS) version 22.0. Based on the findings, there was a significant difference in the
gain scores of the writing performance between control and experimental group.
Moreover, that there was a significant difference within the group for both the control
group and the experimental group. The students in the experimental groups had
positive attitude towards online feedback via CourseSites. The findings also showed
that these students did not face much challenges and problems when using
CourseSites. The findings of this research suggest that receiving online feedback via
CourseSites can be an alternative strategy in improving students writing performance.
Students enjoy the use of CourseSites in L2 writing course because they can
participate anytime and anywhere they want. Besides, the use of CourseSites promotes
autonomous learning as students are to an extent responsible for their desired learning
pace.
