Can Do Descriptors

The following WIDA Can Do Descriptors correspond to the level WIDA level that

Mia currently in.

Writing- She scored a 2.9 which puts her in the beginning level with some level

skills from level 3, developing.

Level 2

o Provide information using graphic organizers

o Generate lists of words/ phrases from banks or walls

o Complete modeled sentence starters (e.g., I like ____.)

o Describe people, places, or objects from illustrated examples and models

Level 3

o Form simple sentences using word/phrase banks

o Engage in prewriting strategies (e.g., use of graphic organizers)

o Participate in interactive journal writing

o Give content-based information using visuals or graphics

Reading She scored in level 2, beginning.

o Identify and interpret pre-taught labeled diagrams

o Search for pictures associated with word patterns

o Match voice to print by pointing to icons, letters, or illustrated words


o Sort words into word families

Speaking She scored in level 4, expanding.

o Participate in class discussions on familiar social and academic topics

o Ask questions for social and academic purposes

o Retell stories with details

o Sequence stories with transitions

Listening- She scored in level 3, developing.
