Dance and Culture

My Reflection
12/7/2017

This assignment had a great impact on me mainly because it opened my eyes on other cultures;

especially in this case the Indian culture where my group and I did our presentation on the

Bhangra dance that was originated in Punjab India. I always thought that India is one country

with same culture all over this including food, language, religion and dance, however what I

learned from research and one of my group members who was actually Indian herself is that

India is very big country and its culture varies depending on which area and part of India you

are from so for example people of the Bhangra dance from Punjab speak Punjabi which is

totally a different language from Hindi that is more spread in middle parts of India, also religion

is totally different mostly people in Punjab are Sikh while in other parts is Hinduism and Islam.

Part of what I learned also about this Indian member who is totally a different culture than

mine ( Arabic ) yet we both live the same United States is that we share a lot of things in

common mainly food which is very similar and some of it was actually the same on dish for

example namely Biryani that could be served in both the Indian and Arabian cultures. In

conclusion I feel like this assignment seriously challenged a lot of my assumptions and I was not

excepting to learn that much about the Indian culture.
