Hi, allxxxx..

This is a hypothetical question, and I am just posing this question for the purpose of deliberation and exchange of thoughts. This has nothing to do with
the essential or non essential variables.

My project specification calls for usage of WPS which has been qualified with CVN test with min 27 Joule at -40 deg C. I have a WPS that covers this
requirement. The material used during qualification was S355K2 and electrode was E7018.

The material to be used in construction is S355K2 which means that it can absorb a min of 27 Joule at -40 deg C.
The Material Test Certificate (MTC) due to an anomaly does NOT state the impact test temperature or the absorption values. Hence it does not comply
with the minimum requirement to show that it is S355K2. However setting this discrepancy aside,
can I use this material as it is? OR I can use it provided the material is sent for Impact test and the report is attached with the MTC.
The electrode to be used is E7018, the electrode manufacturer in his data sheet mentions that E7018 gives excellent properties of 27 Joule at -30 deg C
and it stops there.
I have received a new lot of electrodes to use for construction but the Batch certificate of this electrode shows that the batch has been tested at -30 deg
C and absorbed energy is >27 Joule.

Can I use the electrodes from this batch?

Or I should NOT use these electrodes as they are not suitable and the manufacturer does not commit anything beyond -30 deg C, and hence liable to be
REJECTED.
Or I CAN use it provided for every received batch I have to perform Impact Test and support it along with the Consumable Batch Certificate.
Or, change to an electrode where the electrode manufacturer assures a minimum absorption value at temp >- 40 deg C (within the limits of change
acceptable under AWS D1.1) and the Batch Certificate states that the particular batch has been tested to -40 C.

Please note that the above queries are just hypothetical. The material and the electrodes mentioned are not to be taken literally and has no sanctity in
the nomenclature. I HAVE JUST TAKEN AN EXAMPLE TO DESCRIBE A MATERIAL AND ELECTRODE.

It isn't the material that has been qualified by the PQR but the welding. So you shall perform impact test on the material at -40 deg C with minimum
absorbed energy 27 Joule and (as you told) attach the impact test certificate to the MTC.

Yes you can since you have already proved with the PQR that using this electrode you cover the project's impact test requirements. When a welded
construction calls for impact test, it isn't the electrode's certificate that shall be considered but the impact test that has been done on PQR test specimen
welded with this electrode.,,,
