21. Australia , officially called the Commonwealth of Australia, is in the southern hemisphere. It is
made up of the mainland of the worlds smallest continent, the island of Tasmania, and many other
islands in the Indian and Pacific Oceans. Australia was first settled by convicts, who were sent there
from England at the end of the 18th century. During the 19th century, five more colonies were
established. On 1st January, 1901, the six colonies were made into the Commonwealth of Australia.
Today, Australia has got six states and two mainland territories. Canberra, the capital city, is located
