 PREFACE

This project is part of summer training from PUBLIC WORK DEPARTMENT,

DEHRADUN which includes work regarding the construction, maintenance, strengthening
and improvement of roads. Roads have always been one of the major means of transportation
and communication, especially in the hilly areas. Keeping in mind the havoc created every
year in hills due to natural calamities, road improvement and strengthening is considered a
major program.

In this project report we came across the basic processes involved in the construction and
improvement of roads undertaken by PWDs.
