half-acre center courtyard
fixed around a heated pool,
the sleek 775-square-foot,
second-floor one-bedroom
apartment at Corte Made-
ras near-complete Tam
Ridge Residences is just a
couple months from being
show-ready.
Its hard to believe it at
this time the level of con-
struction that we did here,
said Phil Roy, project man-
ager overseeing the year-
long, multimillion-dollar
repair job of the 180-unit
apartment complex at the
former WinCup site. Now
today, 11 months later, this
is what the finished product
looks like.
Over the past year, Roy
has led an average of 225
workers daily who, beneath

the massive failure of a cir-
cuit breaker that sparked a
fire at a power substation, a

schedule, a legal battle is
unfolding in Marin Supe-
rior Court among the devel-
oper, former contractor Led-
cor Construction Inc. of Las
Vegas and several subcon-
tractors.
MacFarlane Partners, the
San Francisco developer and
owner of the project, hired
Centric General Contractors
of St. Helena to replace Led-
cor after firing the Nevada
team from the job in Febru-
ary 2016. Roy joined as proj-
ect manager last May.

Cities join

Corte Madera, Larkspur will
pay more for Deep Green energy

Corte Madera and Larkspur are the latest
Marin cities to sign up for MCEs Deep Green
power option, agreeing to pay higher electric bills
in exchange for carbon pollution reduction.
The fact that one-third of (Corte Madera) lies
in a floodplain, I think its important that we take
this step and be a leader on this, said Council-
man Bob Ravasio.
Nearly 300 metric tons of carbon pollution an-
nually will be reduced in Central Marin by the
move to Deep Green, which means electricity
in the Twin Cities will come from 100 percent re-
newable sources.
The respective councils for the city and town
this week voted unanimously to make the move;
in the coming months San Rafael, Mill Valley and
the county of Marin will also consider the op-
tion from MCE, formerly known as Marin Clean
Energy.
The switch, town officials said, is to encourage
the rest of the community to also seek 100 per-
cent renewable energy options. Its part of a larger
climate action plan aimed at reducing Marins
carbon footprint.
Corte Madera is working to migrate from the
Light Green program, or energy from 50 per-
cent renewable sources, which will cost the town
an additional $12,800 annually on its energy bill.
In Larkspur, the change will take effect July 1,
2017, costing about $6,000.

Sessions moves
to strip funds
for sanctuary
cities, and state

Attorney General Jeff Sessions on Friday de-
manded that nine jurisdictions, including the
state of California, produce proof that they are
communicating with federal authorities about
undocumented immigrants or risk losing grant
funding.
Sessions sent letters to the nine jurisdictions in
the latest sign that the Trump administration in-
tends to punish so-called sanctuary cities that
do not cooperate in its promised crackdown on
illegal immigration.
President Donald Trump signed an executive
order in January declaring that sanctuary juris-
dictions would not be eligible to receive federal
grants, and Sessions vowed last month during a
White House news conference to take Justice De-
partment money from such places.
How far Trump can go, though, and what
jurisdictions can do to avoid his ire, remains
unclear.
