2. Try to pronounce everything, just like the speaker on the tape. Imitation is the first and very
important step. Its much easier to imitate another speaker than it is to sound out each word
according to phonetics in a dictionary.
3. Listen to SE professional tapes as much as possible. Many tapes dont have standard
pronunciation. Dont waste your time following and practicing poor pronunciation.

Speaking with emotion, tone and rhythm will make your English perfect and fluent.
6. The best way to learn new words is to learn the correct pronunciation. Try your best to
pronounce every word as accurately as possible.
7. Repeat the words in useful sentences as many times as possible. That is the only way to

8. Trying to find as many good sentences as possible and yell them as loudly as possible using
correct pronunciation. There are three Ps to mastering a sentence! First, pronunce each word
in the sentence accurately and with exaggeration. Next, practice each sentence as many times
as possible with the Three-ly and One-breath methods! Last, perform each sentence by saying
it naturally and acting it out with emotion.
9. The number of sentences is more important than the number of words. Your English level
will depend on the number of sentences you can speak. You can speak much more with ten
sentences than you can with one hundred isolated words!
10. Set specific goals that you know how you can achive. Success breeds success! Set more
challenging goals as you make progress. Even if you only start with three sentences a day, you
will know twenty one new sentences by the end of the week.
11. Try to use what youve learned in everyday live. Dare to show off your English, especially
to people who dont speak English. The more you use English, the more fluent your English
will come.

enough to read a sentence 20 times. Remember, 1 minute can also produce miracles. Never say
that you dont have enough time to learn English.
18. Try to read a short English passage every day to buil dup your language sense. This is
extremely important and helpful if you want to score high on your exams. Try your best to

Vietnamese students. The only way to improve your reading ability is to read as much as
possible.
19. Keep an English journal. Try to write a few sentences about your day and then blurt them

1. Have you ever regretted doing something you shouldnt have done or something
you didnt do which you should have? At one time or another we probably all have. Theres
no point in getting depressed about it now its no use crying over spilt milk. However, there
may be some gain in thinking about exactly what happened and why because we might be able
to draw some con-clusions for the future.
2. One thing we all do now and again is lose our temper with a friend or close relative.
The odd thing is that we more often display great anger towards someone we are fond of than
towards strangers. The explanation may be that we see steam in a safe environment, while the
consequences of insulting a stranger could be far more serious.
3. Being honest is usually thought of as a virtue and undoubtedly this is the case. One
the other hand, we have all experienced occasions when speak-ing our minds to someone,
telling them exactly what we feel, and then have found ourselves filled with feelings of guilt.
Perhaps we should have kept our mouths shut?

conversation randomly or abruptly interrupt a group with a que-tion. You need to say, Care if

Even native speakers are sometimes awkward at parties.
This sentences is more than useful English, it is an important and useful so-cial skill!
You may only be a beginner but you dont have to respond by only grunting, uhh, uhh

is very important and useful. Yet, no one can learn everything from school. Even a very good
teacher cannot teach his students everything they want to know. The teachers job is to show his
students how to learn. He teaches them how to read and how to think. So, many things will be
learned outside school by the students themselves.

Everybody knows Charlie Chaplin, a world-famous comic actor. People everywhere have
laughed at Charlie Chaplins films until tears ran down their faces. From his first appearance,
they know what will happen. The little man always has a black moustache, wide-open eyes, a
round black hat and shoes too large for his feet. Hell sreuggle through snow and fall from
windows. Hell fight men who are twice his size, fall in love with women, who hardly notice
him, and try to hug them.
The little tramp that Charlie Chaplin played in dozens of films makes all kinds of stupid
mistakes. He is always in trouble, but he never gives up. He dreams of becoming a great man.
Even people who dont understand English can enjoy Chaplins films, because they are
mostly silent. It isnt what he say that makes people laugh. His comedy doesnt depend on words.
It depends on little actions which mean the same thing to people all over the world.
Chaplin raises his thick eyebrows or rolls his eyes. He hides behind a fat lady or under a
table to escape from his enemies. He dresses well and pretends to be a rich and important man.

Time
[1] Americans think a great deal about time. From childhood the learn to value time.
As chidren, they are taught to be on time to go to school. To do work and to do everything.
When they are having a good time, they say that time flies. When a person is dying they say
is living on borrowed time.
[2] Time is money. Time is knowledge. Time is everything in America. A working
American has to work for 8 hours a day or 40 hours a week. This is the working time. In his

free day, not to mention flying off for a months vacation. It is not unusual for new business

to be devoted to accounting.
But this negative picture doent destroy the beautiful hopes. The possibility of geetting

[1] In north American when people meet each other for the fist time, they take about
things like family, work , school or sports. They ask questions like do you have any brothers
or sisters? where do you work? What school do you go to? Do you like sports? they
also ask queation like Where do you come from? and where do you live? these are polite
questions. They are not personal or provate.
[2] But some things are personal or private, and queations about them are not polite.
People dont ask question about a persons salary. They dont ask how much someone pail
older people their age. It is also not polite to ask people question about politics or religion
unless you know them very well. People dont ask unmarried people Why are you single?
And they dont ask married couple with no children why dont you have any children?

Why do we go to university?
Whats the point of a university education? There are different points of view on this
topic.
There are those who think that a university education s a step on the path to a highly
paid career . It maybe tre that university graduates generally make higher salaries and receive
more respect from soicety than those who do not attend university. However , students who
think this is the only purpose of education is to lear more in order to better serve society .
only those students who understand this will receive the full benefits of a university

I Have a Dream
On August 28, 1963 (Martin Luther) king made a speech to thousand of black people
that immediately became world-famous. He spoke without notes and told the crowd of
listeners how he saw the future. He used the phrase I have a dream many times. He said,
I have a dream that one day on the red hills of Georgia the sons of former slaves and the
sons of former slave-owners will be able to sit down together at the table of brotherhood I
have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be
judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character.

Most Americans dont like to get advice from members of their families. When they
need advice, they dont usually ask people they know. Instead, many Americans write letters
to newspapers and magazines. They can get advice on many different subjects, such as family
problems, the use of language, health, cooking, child care, clothes, and how to buy a house
or a car. Most newspapers print letters from readers with proplems. There are answers written
by doctors, lawyers or educators. But two of the most famous writers of advice are women
without special training for this kind of work. One of them is called Dear Abby by readers
and the other is called Dear Ann Landers. Experience is their preparation for giving advice.

[1] It is easier to go downhill than to climb uphill, so it is easier to fall into bad habits
than into good ones.
[2] bad habits dont come suddenly. They come little without one being aware of their
danger. Schoolboys first pick up little bad habits from schoolmates. If they see bigger boys
smoke, they also want to learn to smake. If they see their friends gambling, they want to
gamble, too. When they get old-er the habits become stronger and stronger, so that they can
no longer get rid of them. From copying , they learn to steal. From gambling, they learn to
cheat. At last on onne would beieve in them. How necessary it is that we get rid of the bad

things from him. The great man taught his students whole-heartedly and answered their
questions with great patience.
One day a student asked him, My dear teacher, didnt you say you yourself have many
more questions about things than we do/ On the contrary, we students have far more than
yours.
With a smile, the teacher drew two circles-one as a big wheel, the other smaller.

Of course, Ive learned much more. But a teacher does not necessarily have fewer
question than his students. Now look at these two cricles. Within the big one is my knowledge
of things, and within the smaller one yours, Out of the circles is what is still unknown to us.
Since mine is larger, the line that marks out the circle is what is longer. That means I have
more opportunities to face what is still unknown. And thats why I myself have more
questions than you do. The more you learn, the more questions you have. You will never
learn enough, you know.

Depend on Yourself.
[1] Depend on yourself is what nature says to every man. Parents can help you.
Teachers can help you. Others can help you. But all these only help you to help yourself.
[2] There have been many great men in history. But many of them were very poor in
childhood, and no uncles, aunts or friends to help them. Schools were few and not very good.
They could not depend upon them for an education. They worked their own way till they
became well known.
[3] One of the most famous teachers in England used to tell his pupils. I cannot make
worthy men of you, but I can help make men of yourselves.
[4] Some young men dont try their best to make themselves valuable to human beings.
They can never gain achievements unless they see their weak points and change their course.
They are nothing now, and will be nothing as long as they live, unless they accept the advice
of their parents and teachers, and depend on their own efforts.

Limitlessness
[1] The final lesson you must learn is limitlessness. It is the sense that there are no
boundaries to what you can become or do. You learn it when you know that your evolution
is never-ending and your potential for growth reaches to infinity.
[2] You were born knowing your limitlessness. As you grew and became so-cialized in
this world, however, you might have come to believe that there are boundaries that prevent
you from reaching the highest levels of spiritual, emotional, able to transcend them, you learn
the lesson of limitlessness.
