CHAPTER 9 - ROOFING
Roofing: Tutorial

Estimate the total cost and the unit rate per m2 (slope) to supply and lay 350 x 350mm concrete
single lap interlocking roofing tiles fixed with galvanized steel nails to every tile at every
alternative course to 1000m2 (slope) roofing surface for a double storey. Tiles are to be over lapped
at least 70mm for bottom and top and at least 70mm for sides. No underlay or insulation required.

Estimating Data:

Material Data

· 1000 pieces of 350 x 350mm concrete tiles including delivery = RM1200/1000

· Wastage for broken tiles = 5%
· Nails = RM30/bucket (500 nos per bucket)
· Wastage for nails = 20%

Labour Data
· 1 gang of roofer consists of 2 roofers and 2 unskilled labour.
· Roofer and unskilled labour rate are RM80/day and RM60/day respectively. (8 hours day)

Output Data
· Time required to unload 1000 pieces of tile = 15 minutes
· Time required to lay 1000 pieces of tile = 6 hours

Tools Cost
· Allow 3% of the material cost for small tools (cost of material includes roof tiles, nails
and wastages).
· Allow lump sum of RM800.00 for scaffolding.

Tendering Factor
· Allow 10% of the total cost incurs for profit and 5% for overhead.
