INTRODUCTION
Physical Hydraulic Model is a scaled representations of a
hydraulic flow situation. Both the boundary condition (e.g.
channel bed, sidewalls), the upstream flow conditions,
and the flow field must be scaled in an appropriate
manner.

Weir is an impervious barrier constructed across a river

to raise the water level on the upstream side. The water is
raised up to the required height and the water then flows
over the weir. Weirs have traditionally been used to
create mill ponds. They are also used to prevent flooding,
measure discharge, and help render a river navigable.

MODELLING PROCESS
The model scale used in this test is Ratio between Model and Prototype
based on the following
considerations: Ratio
No. Parameter Symbol Formula
× The purpose of the test (nh = nL=30)
× Expected accuracy
× Facilities available in the
laboratory (space, 1 Flow Rate u nu = nh½ nu = 5.477
equipment, and pumping
capacity) Flow
× Time and cost available 2 t nt = nh½ nt = 5.477
Duration

Then, the test model is

determined using an undistorted 3 Discharge Q nQ = nh5/2 nQ = 4929.503
model with a scale of 1:30.

RESULTS
Flow Velocity Calculation

The result of comparison of the flow velocity at each point is

obtained from point 3 and 4, the Model-1 have higher flow velocity
than the Model-2.

12
Conclusions

The model is using the undistorted scale 1:30 ,

with 2 design alternatives, Model 1 with a
slope of downstream face 1:1 and Model 2
with a slope of downstream face 1: 0.6.

Model-2 has a lower velocity in downstream of

the spillway, because the energy reduced by
the floor of pond is larger than Model-1, so the
hydraulic jump is shorter and the whirlpool Is
smaller.

13
Suggestions

The elevation of the stilling basin should be lowered to

dissipate the excess energy of water .

To avoid damages of the floor, it should be coated by

concrete material.

The left and right side of the endsill downstream should

be reinforced by gabion to avoid scouring.

Performing riverbank measurements to ascertain the

scouring condition.

River-cliff around the pond is prone to landslides, so it

needs reinforcements.
