Principal’s Corner
Dear Parents,
It is hard to believe that it is
October and the first nine weeks is
half done. Please make sure that
you communicate with your child’s
teacher on a regular basis
regarding your child’s performance
at school. The agenda book is a
wonderful tool to use to make sure
this happens.
I would like to thank everyone who
joined us for our Title One
Meeting/Open House and Fall
Bazaar. We had a wonderful turn
out for both events. Thank you for
supporting your child and his or her
education.
Plan to join your child’s teacher for
our upcoming Academic Parent
Nights. K-2 families are invited to
come out October 12th at 6:00 PM
and 3-5 families are invited to come
out October 26 at 6:00 PM.
Your help is greatly needed
Saturday, October 21 from 8:00-
10:00 AM for our Grounds Clean Up
Day. Please consider helping to
beautify our school yard.
Friday, October 27th from 5:30-7:30
our PTO is hosting a Halloween
dance. It will be a lot of fun for
students.
Be on the lookout for more
information about our upcoming
events. We greatly appreciate your
support and commitment to Elm
City Elementary.

Talk About School

Parents,
As you sit around the dinner table, talk about how important education is. Make sure your child understands
that you use the things you learned in school on the job. Let him/her know that just as you do your best at
work every day, you expect him/her to do their best in school.

So how can you avoid those “What did you do in school today” followed by the common response “Nothing”
conversations? Try asking more specific questions:

~WHAT was the most important thing you learned today?

~WHAT new assignments did you get?

~WHAT do you think your teacher will ask on the test?

Pay attention to what comes home in your child’s backpack. If you know there’s been a school assembly, you
can ask questions related to it. Share information about your own day. Sometimes just hearing Mom or Dad’s
day will give a child “permission” to talk about his/her own day at school!
