January 3-First Day back from Christmas Break
We will follow up our study on Inferencing from December with
our next study on the skill of making predictions. Students will
use information from the text to help them predict what might
happen next in the story.
We will begin our next unit of study that focuses more deeply
on the concepts of multiplication and division. We will learn
about the properties of both these operations.
We will begin our study of Historical Figures later in the month.
We will study biographies of people who made important impacts
on history.
We will discuss if we are on track to meet our Wildly Important
Goals (WIGs)for our classroom, school and selves. We will be
reviewing individual WIGs for Reading (Increase one reading
level at Middle of Year Benchmarks). We will also begin talking
about Habit #4 Think Win-Win.

up to date in the school office in case of inclement
weather.
 We are collecting Box Tops for Education.
 Please check your child’s planner and sign it daily.
 Your child needs a coat daily an tennis shoes daily.

*Information regarding donations for Love Our
School Night (in February) was sent home with each
child earlier in December. The school is asking each
child to donate $2.00 toward the purchase of gift
cards for this event. If you are able and have not
done so, please send in this donation ASAP.
*We will be sending home information regarding our
field trip to Old Salem on January 4th.. Although our
trip isn’t until March 16, payment for the school is
due by February 9, 2018. Please be on the lookout
for this information.
*Our Middle of Year Reading Benchmark testing will
begin shortly after we return from Christmas
Break. Please make sure you are stressing the im-
portance of using details from the text to prove an
answer when your child is doing reading homework.
This will help them with written response questions.
