Math This week we worked on word problems that can be acted out or

solved using reasoning. Students reviewed for their topic 6 test which they
took on Wednesday. Yesterday we began our next math topic on multiplying
decimals. We will continue working on this skill next week.
Reading Our story next week is The Fabulous Perpetual Motion Machine.
It is a play about student inventors. We will be practicing the reading skills
of sequencing and summarizing.
Grammar Next week we will be reviewing the four types of sentences:
Declarative, Imperative, Interrogative, and Exclamatory.
Writing This week students dove right into researching their debate top-
ic. They are working on building a 5 paragraph essay with three strong rea-
sons supporting their stance. We will be working on finishing our drafts then
revising and editing our debates through next week.
Spelling- Our list focuses on schwa sounds. This will be a tough test. The
best way to prepare for this test is to practice, practice, practice.

Social Studies Students took their chapter 3 test this week which was
over early explorers. I was very pleased with the test scores. I could defi-
nitely tell which students studied and took notes. They were rewarded with
a very pleasant grade. As a culminating project, students will be completing
with a partner a fake explorer facebook page for a famous explorer. We will
finish this project up next week and move on to our next chapter the week
after.
Science-This week we really focused on the moon phases. Students will be
expected to know and understand each phase on the test. We reviewed the
unit on the Solar System in preparation for our unit test which will be given
on Wednesday of next week. Students have notes in their science journal,
study guide pages in their black binder, and their Science book to use to
study. We will take a break from the book for a few weeks as we participate
in our annual Energizing Indiana program that is donated to us by NIPSCO.
Students will be receiving energy-saving kits to be used in their homes. We
will learn about how energy is made, used, and can be saved.

20 minutes a day.
