Math This week we worked on solving multiple step story problems

which wrapped up topic 7. Students took the test on Tuesday and many
received excellent scores. Those that did not, unfortunately didnt follow
the decimal rules. We reviewed all the rules right before the test and
students were told to write them on their answer sheet as well. We began topic 8 which will cover geometry.

Reading

Next week we will be reading the story The Dinosaurs of

Waterhouse Hawkins and will be practicing the reading skill of fact and
opinion. Ive noticed most students comprehension and multiple choice
selection is improving on the Friday test. The area of weakness that still
persists is with their short answers. In order for students to obtain all 5
points they must have a well though out answer that supports the question and has textual evidence.

Grammar Next week we will continue working on adjectives.

Writing Students have been busy finishing up the final draft of

their debates. We will complete these within the week and present them
before Thanksgiving Break.

Spelling Our list next week consist of odd consonant sounds.

Social Studies We began chapter 4 this week which highlights European settlement in the new world. We are learning about the stark
contrasts between Spanish, French, and English colonies in America. We
will continue next week by learning about English settlements which later lead to the creation of our original 13 colonies. That will conclude our
chapter, so we will review and study for the chapter test which will be
on the following Monday.

Note From the Teacher:

Its hard to believe but next week is Miss Smiths last week with us. We are going to
miss her dearly. She has done such a great job taking over the class and looking out for the
education of your child. She has worked hard at making sure she reaches each student
and helps them when they struggle. We dont have to worry about not seeing her again,
however. She will be taking over for Mrs. Hanby as she goes on maternity leave anytime
now. She will be right next door to us through January. We look forward to that.
We would like to have a Bon Voyage party for Miss Smith next Friday afternoon to
send her on to her next adventure. If you would be willing to send in a treat/snack for the
party please let me know ASAP. I would love some help throwing something together.
