▸ I can learn about the implementation of
Personalized Learning in Eastern Carver
County Schools and how special education
services (while targeting specific student
needs) is enhanced by personalization of
these targeted skills.

▸ I can identify opportunities to personalize

learning for students receiving specialized

Specialized Education vs. Personalized Learning

● In specialized education we assess to inform instruction.

● In personalized learning we assess to inform learning.

Personalized Learning:
Meeting the needs of Students with Disabilities

The National Center for Learning Disabilities with

funding from the Gates Foundation set out to develop
policy recommendations at the federal and state level
and recommendations for best practices in school so
students with disabilities were included in the
development,
implementation and
evaluation of
personalized
learning system.

Through our investigation, it
became evident that no two
students will have the same
learning needs and that
personalized learning systems
are uniquely positioned to
address student-specific needs.

Personalized learning Defined

Learning is a personal experience. By

co-designing meaningful learning opportunities
with teachers and mentors, the individual is
at the center of her/his learning. Instruction
is something we do with, rather than
to, learners to promote growth,
achievement, and lifelong success.
General Education/Special Education
Course Alignment

Teams worked together to develop an

alignment of general education courses and
special education courses. By doing this we
determined the replacement courses that
needed to be mapped with power standards
and learning targets developed.
This document is in the
process of being revised as
we have increased our
knowledge and understanding
of personalized learning over
the past few years.
