Introduction to Stage Design

Numerical Peer Evaluation

(self included)

Please use this form to evaluate the contributions of each team member to the group
effort. Consider attendance and participation in team meetings and during studio
time, individual contributions to idea generation, research and communication
within the group, etc. These evaluations are completely confidential and will never be
shown to your team members. Please respond as honestly as possible. You may fill this
out as a digital form or you may print, write, scan and send.

1. You must allocate a total of 100 percentage points among your team members in
each area of focus as delineated in the table below. Include yourself in the
calculation, assigning higher percentages to those members who contributed
most. In the case of equal contribution, points should be divided equally among
team members. (AKA 25%)

2. Explain any particularly high or low allocations, providing concrete examples to

illustrate your reasoning.

Scene Design – Molly and I collaborated, Matt offered a couple suggestions that were
not necessarily bad but seemed inconsistent with our design.

Costume Design – Molly and I collaborated, Matt did, in fact, draw his designs, but to
be honest it was really like I told him what to draw and he was like “yeah I like that.”

Lighting Design – Molly and I talked about our lighting ideas for the 3 big scenes but
do to a misunderstanding she ended up writing up our group's light plan that we
turned in (I was working until midnight the night before it was due). I don't think
we talked to Matt about anything.

Introduction to Stage Design
Color Model – Molly did a lot of constructing because I can't cut in a straight line. I
did paint a good deal and glue it together with Molly (plus I figured out how to make
these chain ladders). We had to re-cut Matt's model box pieces because they were
bad but he did, in fact, do some of that work. Matt also helped me make ladders
although in the time I spent having to constantly explain the process I could've just
done it myself. Financially, Molly and I split the cost of materials that we ordered
while Matt did not contribute. I guess we didn't ask but also if I'm offering Molly
money in front of him for something that pertains to our group project I would
assume you would also offer a couple dollars if you had any intent of contributing.

Final Presentation – Molly and I had discussed all of the ideas we were presenting
but she made the actual power point (I did, in fact, put my designs in myself!). Matt
emailed his designs to Molly so she could put them in the power point.

Notes:
1. I know that you know we have had a difficult time working with Matt. Molly is an
incredible partner and she cares about this project probably more than anyone else
in the class.
2. I feel very limited by my technical ability. Designing is not an issue, but I do not
feel like I have the drawing/painting/crafting/etc. skills to bring all my ideas to life.
In that regard Molly has been an unbelievable help in not only being able to handle
all of those, but teaching me some basics as well (as did you, but it's easier 1-on-1 of
course).
3. Something I would like to clarify about my grading of myself is that while I do not
feeling like I was ever doing more than Molly on a physical creation aspect, I was
contributing by organizing our ideas, keeping everything cohesive, forcing final
decisions to be made so we didn't get bogged down by constant changes, and, most
importantly, babysitting. Keeping Matt on task (and on task correctly) and Molly
calm was, in my opinion, one of my biggest contributions to our class time.
This is not an argument that I did more work than Molly. She 100% deserves to be
praised for the time, effort, and energy she has put into this project, and arguing that
I have done more than her would be outright ridiculous. I simply want to clarify that
my contribution to this group goes beyond the technical creation of the designs
(specifically the model box) and that I believe I was integral to the success of this
specific group dynamic. If anyone else was the third partner Matt and Molly would
have likely had a huge fight, or at the very least Matt would have felt very bad over
the course of the semester. I have done everything in my power to keep Matt
involved, on task, and in a good mood throughout our class time and time outside of
class while working around his “restrictions” (re: lies about his mom). I hope you
understand that while it was exhausting to be a mediator for 2 hours every Monday
and Wednesday, it was also incredibly valuable to the success of our project - which
I think turned out really great.
