Assignment: Framed Interview

Groups of 3

INSTRUCTIONS:
1. Each person will interview another member of the group on camera and ask at
least three open-ended questions about the selected topic.
2. The third person is the videographer.
3. Each person rotates until they have filled all three roles – reporter,
videographer, and interview subject.

EQUIPMENT
o Camera
o Tripod
o External microphone
o Headphones
o Memory card

GRADING CRITERIA:
● Proper Framing (eyes on thirds, nose room)
● Light source is behind the camera
● Voice is clearly heard via the external mic
● No distracting audio sounds competing with speaker
● Videographer monitors audio by wearing headphone throughout the
interview, not just at the beginning.
● Interview location makes sense for the topic discussed
● No distracting background issues
● The reporter asks the interview subject to say his or her name and spell it
while recording.
● The reporter thanks the interview subject at the end
● Open ended questions
● Bonus: Follow up questions based on answers given.

SUBMISSION:
1. Submit the interview you were the videographer for.
2. Include a slate before the interview starts stating the topic, reporter,
videographer and interviewee.
3. Lay in the entire interview including questions and answers.
a. You may edit out long lags in conversation due to uncontrollable
circumstances or necessary changes in location or camera framing.
4. Export and use the instructions on classroom to turn in your project by the end
of class today.
