Demand

1. Demand Situation

The coast of the municipality of Malalag has the strategic location that serves
as the port of entry for vessels from other nations in the Southeast Asian Region.
The Philippine Port Authority (PPA) was now at the helm of developing the port
of Malalag through upgrading the terminal to international standards.

Since the program of today’s administration is “Build, Build, Build”, Malalag

port was allocated with a half billion pesos for its development. With this ongoing
development, the municipality was being eyed to soon become an international
agricultural trading port. The ongoing construction of Malalag Port is projected
to spur economic growth not just in Malalag but through out the province of
Davao del Sur.

Malalag was eyed a bigger infrastructure development since it would play a

vital role in the economic boom in the province. With this ongoing development,
it is projected that in the near future, the volume of vehicles traversing in Malalag
would increase and the need for an access road that would ease the flow of traffic
would be highly recommended.

Malalag offers a potential for growth of local tourism, from its rich marine
resources to its hilly landscape. Through the construction of the Malalag Coastal
Road would help to increase the growth rate of tourism. The implementation of
this project may result in increased regional tourist market attraction and would
generate employment opportunities to the residents of Malalag.

2. Global Demand

Mumbai Coastal Road

The construction of Mumbai coastal road was implemented due to the
constraints of the geography and the inability of the city to expand have already
made it the densest metropolis of the world. Other adding factor to the demand,
its high growth in the number of vehicles has resulted in extreme traffic
congestion in the city that caused to slow the flow of traffic. This has led to long
commute times and a serious impact on the productivity in the city as well as
declining quality of life for its citizens.

3. Domestic Demand

Mandaue-Consolacion-Liloan Road (Metro Cebu)

Similarly, Metro Cebu approved the construction of the New Cebu

International Container Port. In 1994 Cebu Integrated Area Development Master
Plan Study, Japan International Cooperation Agency had identified the
Mandaue-Consolacion-Liloan road as one of the basic infrastructure projects
needed in Metro Cebu. But due to the Right of Way (ROW) acquisition on the
heavily built-up area along the road, its implementation was hampered. The
bypass road will serve as an alternative road to the heavily congested Tayud,
Consolacion-Liloan road that ease up the flow of traffic. This road project would
complement the new Cebu international port which the Cebu Ports Authority
(CPA) intends to build on a 12-hectare site in Tayud, Consolacion town in
northern Cebu.

Cagayan de Oro Coastal Road

The Cagayan de Oro coastal road was constructed to alternate route in the
city’s west and east coast areas. It also serves as road linkage from
Puntod-Kauswagan Bridge then to Brgy. Igpit, Opol and is expected to decongest
the flow of traffic along the CM Recto Highway. This road lessen the travel time
and cost.
