HYPOTHESIS

If a liquid is placed in a container with the egg, then osmosis will occur.

DAY 1

On day 1 the egg weighed 61.8 grams. To start the experiment we added 200 milliliters
of vinegar to a beaker and placed the egg inside. After we finished we wrapped tinfoil
around the top of the beaker so that nothing would evaporate.

DAY 4

On day 4 the eggs shell has came off and all that is left is the phospholipid membrane.
The egg increased in mass by 17.1 grams and the vinegar lost 40 mL. For our next test we
added 200 mL. of syrup to the beaker with the egg.

DAY 5

On day 5 the egg yolk was easily visible and the egg shriveled because it released its
water to balance out the syrups concentration of water. The egg lost 37.1 grams in mass
and is now 51 grams. The syrup increased in volume by 25 mL and is now 225 mL. For
our last test we are adding 200 mL of water in the beaker.

DAY 6

On day 6 the egg absorbed 45 mL of water and now weighs in at 91.8 grams.
