Article Title: Car Racing Extravaganza
By: Alex
- What is another term for negative acceleration and provide an example from the article.
Deceleration is when an object slows down. An example that was in the article was
slowed down. It was used when they said, “the blue team’s gas tank was close to empty
so they slowed down for 10 seconds in 90 ft.”
- Which(object)in the article provided has a greater rate of acceleration as compared to
the other(object)? Provide evidence to support your answer.
The blue team has a greater rate of acceleration than the red team because the red team
decelerates 18.5 mph2 and the blue team decelerates 55 mph2
Red Team
102mph-65mph/2h=
37mph/2h=
18.5 mph2
Blue Team
67mph-234mph/3h=
167mph/3h=
55.6 mph2

- What term and/or phrase did the writer use in the article to imply that (an object) is at
rest, as in it’s not moving?
The blue car stopped for a tank refill, at that time it was at rest.
- What (two) pieces of information did the writer include in the article that are irrelevant
and/or misleading to the reader, as in they are not useful in calculating either speed or
acceleration?
Two pieces of misinformation are that the cars needed to complete three laps around the
track, and that Ari’s weebly was dragged the last 6ft to get a tank refill.

Article title: Water Bottle Flipping Competition
By: Ben L.
- What is another term for negative acceleration and provide an example from the article.
Another term for negative acceleration is deceleration means the reduction of speed, and
an example from the article is “it slows it’s fall after it hit the ceiling.”
- Which(object)in the article provided has a greater rate of acceleration as compared to
the other(object)? Provide evidence to support your answer.
Spencer’s water bottle has a greater rate of acceleration when compared to Liza’s
deleraction because Spencer’s acceleration was 1m/s2 while Liza’s deceleration was 0.25
m/s2.
Spencer’s water bottle.
2m/s-0m/s/2s=
2m/s/2s=
1m/s2
Liza’s water bottle
FV: 6m/4s= 1.5 m/s
1.5m/s-1m/s/2s=
0.5m/s/2s=
0.25m/s2
- What term and/or phrase did the writer use in the article to imply that (an object) is at
rest, as in it’s not moving?
In the article, it says “Spencer flipped the water bottle with no prior movement,” showing
that it was at rest.
- What (two) pieces of information did the writer include in the article that are irrelevant
and/or misleading to the reader, as in they are not useful in calculating either speed or
acceleration?
Two irrelevant pieces of information that the writer included was the water bottles’ mass
of 40 grams and the ages of Spencer and Liza, 14 and 16 year olds.
