Participant’s Guide for

Daily Life in Daejeon

NRICH is located in Daejeon of South Korea.

Daejeon is one of Metropolitan cities (Refer to the map above).

Daejeon is divided into administrative districts
Daejeon(City) > Gu(district by direction) >dong (town)

For example,
NRICH belongs to Muji-dong, Yuseong Gu, Daejeon.
Guest House belongs to Doryong -dong, Yuseong-Gu, Daejeon.
Dunsan E-Mart belongs to Dunsan-dong, Seo- Gu, Daejeon.

When you need to say the address to a taxi driver, you’d better show this Korean Message, because most

of taxi drivers can’t understand English well in Daejeon.

Around Guest House

1. On the map above, you can see NH bank and a small supermarket (upper right).

At NH bank, you can open your bank account for your monthly salary during ACPCS.

(First time, you will be accompanied by a coordinator who will help you open your bank account.)

2. And there is a small supermarket (SMART-mart) next to NH bank selling just several items, which is the

nearest store you can find around Guest House. You can use this small mart (but there are limited items) or we

recommend you visit E-Mart to shop various food products.

3. You can recharge your bus card at convenience stores, subway stations and newsstands around the bus stops.

The nearest convenience store from Guest House is CU above. We will give you a bus card and it will be charged

by you when needed.

(The bus fare is 1200 won in cash but 1100 won with a bus card. Besides, you can transfer to other buses which

are heading for other directions free of charge, two times. When you get on the bus and touch your bus card at

the sensor, you can check the balance left in your bus card.

4. Around the main entrance of Guest House, there is a ATM booth of KB bank. It is going to be a given place,

when coordinators need to pick you up.

5. On the 14th floor of Guest House, there is a coffee bar selling some kind of sandwiches, beverages, coffee and

necessary items for lodging.

6. Also if you turn left from the coffee bar, you can see the laundry room equipped with washing machines (you

need to insert coins into the slot for use) and steam iron (free of charge).

7. TJB (Taejeon (Daejeon) Broadcasting Station)

is the local TV station under Seoul Broadcasting

Station). This is a good landmark to show the

location of Guest House (Guest House is not

well known to the public in Daejeon). And also

there is another local TV station, MBC on the

right side of TJB along the road.

※ Kitchen supplies/utensils in your Guesthouse room are quite expensive (ex. a cup per

$20) and if you break or lose them by any chance YOU MUST COMPENSATE THE LOSS IN

CASH. Consumables on the other hand such as light balls or internet cable lines should be

provided and managed by the Guesthouse office. MAKE REQUEST TO THE RECEPTION if you

come up with any trouble with them.

Bus line from Guest House to NRICH

Take Bus 705 or 121 in front of Guest House.

The interval between buses 918 is not short. (15~20min)

We recommend you get off a bus (705, or 121) after Munji intersection and walk forward to NRICH.

Going to E-MART

Going to E-Mart by bus <705, Refer to Pink Line above > in front of your Guest.

Get off bus at the 4th bus stop after crossing the bridge.

Apple 1 is E-MART (you can buy food ingredients, drinks etc.)

Get off bus at the 5th bus stop after crossing the bridge.

Apple 2 is Galleria Department Store

Bus Terminal and Subway station

The area around E-mart belongs to Dunsan-dong (town name)

As you can see this map above (check two black cats), Dusan-dong has bus terminal to Incheon Airport and other

places. But this one is intermediate bus station and we will use “Daejeon Terminal Complex” when we go on

official field trip. Take taxi and show “대전 복합터미널” to taxi driver.

Also there you can find a subway station (government complex station) above.

If you get off Bus 705 at the 3rd stop after crossing the bridge (you will hear English announcement and also the

signboard in front of the bus says “GOVERNMENT COMPLEX” or show this word “정부청사” to any Korean on the

bus), you can see the Dunsan Police station at the intersection and check the subway signposts.

If you take a subway, you can go to other downtowns and Daejeon Railway station.
