Historical Biography Writing Project


For this project, you will each complete a ‘Scrapbook’. This will
be based on the prior research you have worked on in class. This
book will be part of your display at this year’s History Fair. Details
for the scrapbook are below.

1. ​ over page (20 pts) - Due:


C :​ Your book will need a neat, beautiful cover
page. It must include:
a. A picture of some kind (related to your biography)
b. A title
c. By _____ (your name)
2. Diary/Journal (30 pts) - Due: :​ You will complete at least 3 diary/journal
entries for your person. Each entry must be 2-3 paragraphs long, be written in
first person, and include dates for the entries.
3. Choose at least 2 of the following (25 pts each) - Due :
a. Letter to a relative, friend, or colleague
This letter needs to be a friendly, casual, or a business letter. Follow the
standard letter format.
i. This should be a minimum of 2 paragraphs.
ii. Write to someone they would actually write to.
iii. Write in first person (as though you are your person)
b. Photos/Drawings and Captions
You will need a minimum of 5 photos/drawings with a sentence describing
each.
c. Commemorative Stamp
The commemorative stamp is a full size page stamp, not an actual size.
This is an artistic element that should be done by hand.
● Have pictures or symbols that represent your person
● It needs a price
● Either cut it to look like a stamp with scalloped edges or draw it
that way
d. Epitaph
The epitaph is the gravestone or site. You will be creating an artistic
scene...either drawn or on the computer. Create a gravestone that is
creative...it can be any shape. It should include a quote that you think
the person would want to immortalize them.

e. Eulogy
The eulogy is written in narrative format with the following
specifications:
● 1 page minimum (3-5 paragraphs, typed or neatly
handwritten)
A eulogy is a well-crafted speech intended to commemorate a loved one
who has died. It is usually presented at a memorial service or funeral by
someone who was close to the deceased and knows them well. A
eulogy may contain:
● a condensed life history of the person who has died
● details about family, friends, work/career, interests, and
achievements
● favorite memories of the deceased
f. Obituary
The obituary is written in newspaper format with the following
specifications:
● title (Joe Shmoe, poet, dies at 81)
● 2 paragraph minimum...giving a brief summary of their life and
accomplishments
● do not go into gory detail over how they died
● even if they are not dead, you need to create a death
date...can be in the future
● tell who the surviving family members are
● you can say where the service is being held
● The last sentence should read, “In lieu of flowers, please make a
donation to ____________” (this means instead of sending
flowers, they should donate to something that was important to
the person)
★ If you choose to do more than two items from #3, you may receive 5 points extra
credit (up to 20 points)

All work must be your very best! These will be on display at the History Fair in May!
