To Whom It May Concern:

My name is Brittney Pacini, I am an innovative school counseling and mental health professional applying for the
school counseling position posted on EdJoin, and I would love to bring my enthusiasm and focus to your school. In
May 2018, I will graduate from Chapman University with a Masters in School Counseling, complete the
requirements for a Pupil Personnel Services Credential (PPS), and be a Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC)
trainee. I have an unyielding desire to equip young people with skills to help them develop their strengths,
overcome barriers, and discover their passions. I am hardworking, organized, determined, and ready to utilize the
social, emotional, academic, and career skills I learned from the American School Counseling Association (ASCA)
National Standards and my internships.

I use my creativity and my drive to go beyond what is asked of me. During a month of my internship at Las Flores
Middle School, I was the only school counselor on site providing goal-driven direct and indirect services to over
1,000 students. Additionally, due to high behavior referral rates, I presented Second Step lessons to all grades and
presented lessons to 7th grade students every week regarding empathy, communication, bullying, and study skills.
Based on a midyear data evaluation, their behavior referrals decreased by 71%. Similarly, based on a midyear self-
report survey, 87% of 7th grade students felt confident asking for help from an adult at school, and 99% knew what
to do if they experienced or saw bullying. I also adapted and implemented a Student Success Skills academic group
for 7th and 8th grade students with 2 or more F’s that focused on goal setting, progress monitoring, study skills,
time management, and motivation. As a result, the progress report data indicated that the total number of
participant F grades decreased by 72%.

At Century High School, a multicultural school where 94% of students live in low income homes, I met with small
groups of students to develop post-secondary plans that included four year college preparation, community college
transfer, certificate programs, and career information. In addition, I provided individual counseling for all students
to plan schedules, understand credit recovery options, and create academic plans that met their personal goals and
career objectives. I also held conferences with students and families when needed to develop plans to address
personal and academic issues. Similarly, I collaborated with the E-Business California Partnership Academy
Program teachers to create and teach an eight day college and career unit in the 10th grade classes. The college and
career unit endowed students with knowledge about course offerings, postsecondary options, financial options, and
personalized academic and career plans. Furthermore, I developed and executed a stress management small group
for 9th grade students where they learned about the signs of stress, coping skills, cognitive skills, and created a
stress management action plan. Based on a self-report survey, all participants increased their use of coping skills
from 25% to 100%.

I am dependable and dedicated to my students and will provide the students in your district with a wealth of
opportunities to be motivated, caring, and skillful individuals who are able to demonstrate academic excellence and
pursue their dreams. My ability to organize my workload, get along with others, and go beyond what is asked of
me are what makes me an exceptional counselor. I am confident that my counseling skills and personal
commitment to the job of the counselor will enable me to improve the English Learner performance gap, implement
interventions for low income students, increase college readiness, decrease suspension rates, build positive school
connections, and enhance parent involvement in your district. Thank you for considering my application.

Respectfully,

Brittney Pacini
