Artifact- Lesson Plan 1 from my Introduction to Scientific Inquiry Class

INTASC Standard 1- The teacher understands how learners grow and develop,

recognizing that patterns of learning and development vary individually within and across the

cognitive, linguistic, social, emotional, and physical areas, and designs and implements

developmentally appropriate and challenging learning experiences.

The artifact that I chose was the lesson plan that I completed from my Introduction to

Scientific Inquiry Class. I chose this artifact because when creating the lesson plan, I had to

make changes according to the strengths and weaknesses of children. I had to consider that some

children need more challenges while other children needed assignments that were not so

challenging. For this assignment I also had to make accommodations for children with

disabilities. I feel that this artifact helped me grow as a teacher because it made me realize that

everything was not cut and dry and that when creating a lesson plan there are many different

types of children to consider.

The assignment meets the INTASC standard 1 because when creating the lesson plan, I

had to consider developmentally appropriate and challenging learning experiences for children.

When creating this lesson plan, I had to think about all of the aspects that the standard discusses

such as social development and cognitive development.

I think that lesson plans are one of the most important aspects of being a teacher. Lesson

plans have to be created everyday in the teaching world. As a future goal I would like to be able

to create more advanced lesson plans that incorporate as many types of learning styles that I can.

I think that it is very important to create learning styles that all children can understand. In my
opinion it takes time to be able to create a good lesson plan and I hope to be able to do that

sooner than later..
