Artifact: Diversity PowerPoint

INTASC Standard 2-The teacher uses understanding of individual differences and

diverse cultures and communities to ensure inclusive learning environments that enable

each learner to meet high standards.

The INTASC standard I chose was standard 2. When completing this course

there were many different things that I did not know about diversity. If I had to choose I

would say that out of everything I learned, the different diversities that children have to

deal with is, is one of the most important things that I have learned. The reason that I

say this standard is one of the most important things is because I have the word

“diversity” all wrong. Diversity is not just different ethnic groups, but so many more

things factor into is such as, segregation, biases, discrimination, eating disorders,

homosexuality, and etc. Children face so much more than what we as teachers can fully

see. That is why I chose INTASC standard 2 because it helped me grow as a teacher.

The artifact that I chose for this standard was our diversity PowerPoints. . In my

PowerPoint I talked about all the different types of diversities that students have to face

including economic changes, discrimination, and multicultural education. This

PowerPoint helped me grow as a teacher because I now know what to look for in

children when they are facing the different types of diversity issues. This helped me

grow as a teacher also because I am now one step closer on learning how to make my

classroom an inclusive classroom. My rationale is the following” The diversity

PowerPoint is an important artifact for my portfolio because it relates to INTASC

standard by identifying different types of diversity that student’s face.” My goal to work

forward to in the future is to be able to identify students who are facing issues described

in the PowerPoint and make sure I am able to help them. I will reach this goal by

keeping an open mind and keeping close eye to the students I teach.
