Artifact- Health/Physical Education Plan

Standard #4: Content Knowledge

The teacher understands the central concepts, tools of inquiry, and structures of the

discipline(s) he or she teaches and creates learning experiences that make these aspects of the

discipline accessible and meaningful for learners to assure mastery of the content.

The artifact that I chose for standard four is the Health and Physical Education plan that I

completed in my physical education class. For this lesson plan, I worked with another classmate

and we created a lesson plan that incorporated physical movements into the lesson plan. For

this lesson plan we chose to teach a class of students about the story The Three Little Pigs. We

also created an interdisciplinary lesson plan by incorporating science aspects into the lesson

plan. We started by discussing different aspects of the story The Three Little Pigs and we read

the peaks of the book and had the students stomping their feet and knocking on their desks.

After that we had the students weigh straw, sticks, and stone to see which material is the

heaviest. We had them weigh these objects because the three little pig’s houses were made out

of these objects.

This artifact is perfect for standard 4 because we created a learning experience that the

students would remember and truly learn from. We created an experience that would insure

the students master the content. Standard four is all about utilizing teaching tools and figuring

out a way to create a great learning experience, and in my opinion that is what we did.
As a future learning goal, I would like to come up with more ways to create great learning

experiences for my students. I want to incorporate many different learning styles while creating

great learning experiences. Although it will take many more classroom observations and

experiences, it will be worth it.
