About this document
About this document
Purpose
The purpose of this document is to describe the preventive and corrective maintenance
procedures applicable to the Alcatel-Lucent 9311 Macro V1 Node B Outdoor cabinet,
with d4U Node B in the digital shelf. Its short name is 9311 Macro V1 OD with d4U.
The 9311 Macro V1 OD with d4U has the following characteristics:
• A 9926 d4U module in the digital shelf, whose main functions are: network interface,
call and signal processing. The d4U can include up to 2 eCCM-U and up to 6
eCEM-U or up to 6 xCEM-U or a compatible mix between eCEM-U/xCEM-U,
• The RF block which contains the front-end RF modules (1 to 6 TRDUs or 1 to 6
RRHs (external)),
• Power system (AC distribution, filtering, rectifiers),
• Cooling system (iDACS),
• Internal alarms,
• The standard network interface of the 9311 Macro OD1 is a maximum of 8 PCM
E1/T1 (E1 PCM120 Ohms/ 75 Ohms, T1 PCM 100 Ohms).
The standard network interface can be an IP Iub and Hybrid Iub (supported by the
eCCM-U into the d4U).
The following units are optional:
• RETA
• External Alarms
• PCM Protection
• TMA
• DC back-up (internal only)
• Material in User Space.

UTRAN components
The UTRAN is composed of at least one Radio Network Subsystem (RNS). An RNS
covers a certain geographical area. It is equivalent to the GSM BSS. Each RNS is
composed of one Radio Network Controller (RNC) and one or more Node Bs. RNSs are
interconnected through the Iur interface of each RNC to form a network.
Alcatel-Lucent UTRAN
The Alcatel-Lucent UTRAN is based on the following components:
• RNC
• Node B
• WMS for the OAM part
RNC
The Alcatel-Lucent RNC is 3GPP-compliant. It is based on the Multiservice Switch
platform.
RNC main functions

The main functions of the RNC are to control and manage:
• Radio Access Network (RAN)
• Signalling between Core Network (CN) components and the Radio Network System
(RNS)
• Node Bs and their radio resources
RNC interfaces

The Alcatel-Lucent Wireless Management System (WMS) delivers an integrated UMTS

management platform through which all Network Elements (NE) can be monitored and
controlled.

It plays an important role in providing the foundation of a complete end-to-end
management solution for UMTS networks. The WMS manages the entire UMTS
network, which is divided into:

Access Network OAM main functions

The Access Network OAM manages the UTRAN part of the network.
The main functions of Access Network OAM are the following:

NSP
The Network Services Platform (NSP) is a graphical user interface to the Access Network
providing a common platform for navigation and control. The NSP interfaces with the
NEs through a Common Object Request Broker Architecture (CORBA). This
vendor-independent architecture links computer applications across different networks.
Optional Supported Network Configurations

From LR13.1.W, BTS daisy chaining through the NodeB allows one GE link to serve a
number of base stations. The base station can be multi-generation of 2G, 3G or 4G. The
number of base stations is limited to 1Gb/s of the GE link or by the capacity of the switch
of the most upstream base station of the chain which must be a 3G NodeB.
The NodeB located upstream in the daisy chain with respect to the position of another
base station B is called the ‘Chaining NodeB’ or the ‘Dropping NodeB’ while base station
B (whatever the generation) is called the ‘Chained base station’ or the ‘Dropped base
station’. The ‘Dropped base station’ is never aware of the daisy chain.
A NodeB can be used for daisy chaining once the software is uploaded in the NodeB. The
feature can be activated without the need to reset the ‘Chaining NodeB’.
The service is managed at the MDA level and makes use of the MAC addressing to
distinguish Chained base station frames from Chaining BTS ones.
PRELIMINARY
This network configuration requires 9926 d4U Node B or d2U NodeB equipped with GE
MDA and full IP backhaul. Besides, only Alcatel-Lucent base stations are supported in
the daisy chain.

Preventive maintenance
The preventive maintenance is used to periodically test the items of equipment that do not
directly trigger any alarm at the OMC. However, the execution of preventive maintenance
procedures can trigger alarms at the OMC.
These procedures must be performed according to the following schedules.
It is possible to group some of the procedures, which reduces the intervention time. The
intervention time indicated corresponds to the intervention time for each item of
equipment.
Note: In certain environments, these procedures may be required more frequently:
• In dusty or dirty environments the fan filter may need to be replaced more
frequently.
• Environmental conditions and door opening-closing frequency may impact the
door gasket ageing.
• Antenna mounts and connectors may require periodic cleaning in dirty and high
humidity areas.
• Systems located in high seismic areas may require anchor bolts and mounting
hardware to be tightened periodically especially for field installed items.

doors to prevent damage to equipment or harm to people. Hold doors firmly until you
properly secure the door latch mechanism. It is not recommended to do maintenance
when the wind is over 70 km/h.

Introduction
The 9311 Macro V1 OD is an ETSI UMTS Node B element and supports the Iub
interface.
The 9311 Macro V1 OD only supports the Frequency Division Duplex (FDD) mode.
The 9311 Macro V1 OD is responsible for radio transmission/reception from/to one or
more cells to/from the User Equipment (UE).
The 9311 Macro V1 OD provides:
• The means of communication between a UE and a network using Transport Channels
• Physical layer channels which are necessary to synchronize the downlink and also to
perform cell selection/re-selection and hand-over preparation
• Measurement information to the RNC for radio resource management (hand-over,
power control)
The 9311 Macro V1 OD provides up to eight E1/T1 with Inversion Multiplexing ATM
(IMA) or Drop and Insert capability (fractional E1/T1). It also supports multi-PCM
without IMA.
The 9311 Macro V1 OD support the Hybrid Iub and full IP Iub using the x/eCCM-U +
GE MDA.
9311 Macro V1 OD interfaces

The 9311 Macro V1 OD provides the following interfaces.
• Uu interface (UMTS User interface): this interface is used between the Node B and
the UE. It is dependent on the technology used on the radio (for example, it can be
W-CDMA or TD/CDMA).
• Iub interface (Interface Node B): this interface lies between the RNC and the Node B.
It allows to connect RNCs.
9311 Macro V1 OD cabinets

The 9311 Macro V1 OD cabinet is a single cabinet closed by two doors. It is designed to
ease transport, installation, repair, network growth and flexibility, and to manage diverse
traffic demands.
To increase the Node B capacity, modules are added instead of whole cabinets.
PRELIMINARY
The 9311 Macro V1 OD with d4U can operate only in the 2100 MHz bandwidth with its
internal modules. Other frequencies, i.e. 900 MHz or 850 MHz, can be supported using
remote radio modules (Remote Radio Heads, or RRH)

Introduction
This part is a hardware presentation of the 9311 Macro V1 OD cabinet types.
The 9311 Macro V1 OD products provided by Alcatel-Lucent are the following:

The 9311 Macro V1 OD cabinet is divided into the following compartments:
• Upper compartment

The upper compartment comprises the iDACS (inter Direct Ambient Cooling System).
The iDACS is an integral part of the BTS cabinet design. It is the cooling unit of the
cabinet and is accessed through the front-hinged access door.
The main compartment is divided into the two following parts.
The left part includes the following elements:
• one MCA module
• one AC power system shelf which contains DC distribution module, the SPCM
(Single Power Control Module) and up to seven rectifiers
• one digital shelf configured with the 9926 d4U
• one external alarm protection module
• one PCM protection module (LPPCM)
• one battery
• a DC breaker panel
The right part includes the following elements:
• one TRDU shelf, containing up to six TRDU modules

Dual Node B Specifications

A new feature will enable operators to stack two logical Node Bs inside the same d4U in
order to provide a higher signaling capacity.
In this configuration - also called “dual controller configuration” - two controllers (one
per Node B) are plugged into the 9926 d4U and all modems will be shared between the
controllers. The hosting of these two Node Bs implies that the both Node Bs are equipped
with GigE MDA eCCM-U controllers and eCEM-U or xCEM-U modems.
Note: Neither the xCCM-U controller nor the 4E1 MDA configuration are supported
with the dual Node B feature.
Both controllers will be hosting their own Iub backhaul termination as well as their own

In the dual Node B configuration, an inter-CCM interface allows the two eCCM-U
controllers to communicate across the backplane and check the configuration information
consistency.
Supported Configurations
When the d4U is used in a Dual Node B (2 controller) set-up, the following hardware
configurations are possible:
• eCCMu with GE MDA is supported in Physical slot 5 and 4 for dual controller (Split
Mode).
Note: eCCMu supports up to a maximum of 6 modems in a single controller
configuration.
• xCCMu is not supported in a dual Node B configuration.
Note: xCCMu is supported in a single controller Node B configuration.
• eCCM in Phy slot 5 can support upto 6 CEMs ( 1,2,3,6,7,8).
• eCCM in Phy slot 4 can support upto 3 CEMs ( 1,2,3).
• xCEM and eCEM are supported.
• Hybrid/NativeIP Backhaul is supported. (In a Dual Node B configuration, both Node
Bs need not be using same backhaul )
• Ethernet Backplane (Ethernet-Ethernet), ATM Backplane (ATM-ATM) is supported.

Modem with DualNodeB feature

The modems with DualNodeB feature can work with CCM-B. For this, the modems
should be upgraded with CCMA, before working with CCM-B
Downgrade procedure from DualNode B supported load to DualNode B unsupported load in d4Uv3
to Single Technology
Pre-requisites
The pre-requisites are as follows:
• Two Controllers with DualNode B can support up to a maximum of 6 modems.
• In this set up, the BTS_Mode is Dual_Node B.
Downgrade procedure
1 Plug out the CCM-B..
2 Use the daisy chain configuration for
the alarm cable.
3 Connect eAM to FanTray-2.
4 Connect SiteLAN to CCM-A.
5 Connect to CCM-A TIL, and modify
BTS_Mode from DualNodeB to Single

• In both I, the configuration of the ModemSlotArray is as follows:
ModemSlotArray = 02 02 02 00 00 01 01 01.
Note: The ModemSlotArray can be modified as well.

Detects another controller in Simplex or Duplex when BTS_Mode is SingleTechnology with

DualNodeB Supported load
Note: This is a configuration error scenario and might lead to Bus Conflict on the
backplane.
There are two scenarios where this type of configuration error might occur:
Scenario 1: Both the Controllers are present during power up. Both the controllers find
another mate controller. The CCM-OAM does MIB KO and disables all
GigE/HSSL/1-wire links to all the modem slots and raises an alarm.
Scenario 2: New Controller is plugged in D4U with the already existing running
Controller. Disable all GigE/HSSL/1-wire links to all the modem slots for the already
running controller.
Two controllers with different BTS Mode values

Example: In this case, one controller with BTS_Mode is in Single Technology mode and
the other controller with BTS_Mode is in Split Technology mode. The two different
scenarios are described below:
Controller with BTS_Mode in Single Technology: Two scenarios might occur. The
scenarios are described in the “Detects another controller in Simplex or Duplex when

Controller with BTS_Mode in Split Technology:If the controller finds another
controller which is present or inserted but it is unable to communicate, the controller
raises alarm cannot communicate with Partner NodeB.

Two controllers with conflicting modem allocation in ModemSlotArray
backplane.
In such case, where both the controllers are in conflict with modem allocation in
ModemSlotArray, the controllers do the following:
• Both controllers raise an alarm Inconsistent Partner Board Configurationto OMCB
• Both controllers disconnect HSSL/GigE/1-wire connections to the problematic
inconsistent modem slot
NE ID received from IML does not match with NE ID read from I&C
When the controller detects that the NE ID received from IML does not match with the
NE ID read from I&C, it raises alarmInconsistent Partner NodeB Name.
d4Uv3 with one controller & upto 3 modems: Fantray

If the d4Uv3 is equipped with one controller and 3 modems, then all the modules must be
kept in one thermal zone.
The second fan tray must not be powered off for the following reasons:
• If the fan tray is powered off, fan alarms are raised as the tacho reads 0.
• The temperature margin improves if both the fan trays are powered ON.

Powering up a 9311 Macro V1 OD with d4U

Purpose
The procedure below describes how to power up a Macro V1 Node B Outdoor with 9926
d4U, when it is completely powered off.
Tools required
• Key to open the door
• Lamp
• Multimeter
• Phillips screwdrivers
• Tie rap pliers
Initial Checks
The aim of this section is to check that the cabinet(s) (9311 Macro V1 OD and battery
cabinet if employed) is (are) properly set up and ready to be powered up.
The initial checks are the following:
1. Visually check that:
• The 9311 Macro V1 OD is correctly secured.
•
The battery cabinet (if employed) is correctly secured.
•
The 9311 Macro V1 OD and battery cabinet does not exhibit any sign of physical
damage.
Note: If physical damage is observed, notify the supervisor immediately.
• The circuit breaker(s) of the customer AC box (9311 Macro V1 OD and battery
cabinet if that exists) is (are) properly labeled and OFF.
2. Open the doors of the cabinet and look at the internal batteries and check if:
• The date mm/yy has not expired within a six month time frame.
Note: If the six month period after the deadline has elapsed, the batteries must be
returned to a warehouse for complete recharging.
• Each battery is properly connected, check the cables, straps, terminal blocks.
3.
On the 9311 Macro V1 OD, check that the following components are switched OFF:
• All breakers of the AC Main.

traffic.
To avoid this traffic loss, the cell or sector associated with the xCEM-U must be locked.

• In mono-controller configuration, cut off the power supply of the both RUCs.
• In dual controller configuration, cut off only the power supply of the RUC linked to
the defective CCM.

Carry out the following procedure to replace a TRDU in a 9311 Macro V1 OD with d4U
in the digital shelf.
Important! Mixity restriction : TRDU model mixity is not allowed within a cluster.
Note: Make sure that the TRDU module type used as a spare part is identical to the
one to be replaced in the TRDU shelf (TRDU60-21, TRDU60-21B). The left and right
parts of the shelf must consist of three modules of the same type per sector (for
example, S1: TRDU60-21, S2: TRDU60-21B).
Note: To exchange a faulty TRDU module, replace it with a module of the same type
in a group of three identical modules.

Purpose
The light TMA kit includes the following items:

conditions, they might found unstuck, no more offering the safety guarantee they are
designed for and by the way presenting a bad visual aspect.

European regulatory requirement compliance

Overview
As a radio product, the Node B falls under the requirement of the Radio and Telecom
Terminal Equipment (RTTE) European directive 1999/5/EEC. The RTTE directive covers
essential requirements in the field of:
• Protection of the Health and Safety of the user and any other person, including the
objectives with respect to safety requirements contained in the Low Voltage directive
(2006/95/EC)
• The protection requirements with respect to EMC contained in Directive
2004/108/EC.
The equipment generates, uses, and can radiate radio frequency energy. If not installed
and used in accordance with the instruction manual, the equipment may cause harmful
interference to radio communications. However, there is no guarantee that
interference will not occur in a particular installation. If this equipment does cause
harmful interference to radio or television reception, which can be determined by
turning the equipment off and on, the user is encouraged to try to correct the
interference.
The EMC requirements have been selected to ensure an adequate level of
compatibility for apparatus at residential, commercial, and light industrial
environments. The levels however, do not cover extreme cases which may occur in
any location but with a low probability of occurrence. In particular, it may not cover
those cases where a potential source of interference which is producing individually
repeated transient phenomena, or continuous phenomena, is permanently present, for
example a radar or broadcast site in the near vicinity. In such a case it may be
necessary to either limit the source of interference, or use special protection applied,
to the interfered part, or both.
Note: For operation or maintenance inside Alcatel-Lucent systems, the antistatic wrist
shall always be used to maintain the integrity of the product.
• Effective use of the Radio spectrum allocated to terrestrial/space radio communication
and orbital resources so as to avoid harmful interference. The routes and standards
used to demonstrate compliance with there essential requirements are outlined in the
following paragraphs.
– Node B EMC
Compliance with the essential requirements of EMC has been demonstrated using
EN301489-1 & -23 standard.
– Node B radio compliance
Compliance with the essential requirements of effective use of the radio spectrum

Overview

operating conditions (called normal operation):
• Doors shall be closed and/or covers shall be in place.
• External cables shall be of the same type as specified by Alcatel-Lucent.
• No modification of any mechanical or electrical characteristics of the product shall be
made.
Any change or modification made to the product without written approval from
Alcatel-Lucent releases Alcatel-Lucent from subsequent responsibility regarding the
