Technical conventions
Lengths and other measurements are given in metric units, with non-metric units given as
equivalents for use in non-metric markets.
For manufactured parts, the following system of conventions is used:
• Metric sizes of nuts, bolts, flat washers, and lock washers are identified by an
uppercase letter M followed immediately by a size in millimeters (example: M6)
• American fractional sizes of nuts, bolts, anchor bolts, and washers are identified by a
number followed immediately by a double apostrophe (example: 3/8"). In the case of
lengths measured in feet, "2 feet" is used rather than "2'" so that the single apostrophe
is not overlooked.
The illustrations in this IP do not contain all details and exceptions, but are rather
intended to highlight main points. Dimensions are usually shown in millimeters, with
inches in parenthesis. As an example, 680.0 (26.77) equals 680 millimeters or 26.77
inches.

Technology
The Nokia 9768 MRO is based on Nokia Bell Labs lightRadio™ technology, which
brings together the latest innovations in antennas, amplifiers and transceivers, minimizing
size and improving RF performance.
Network architecture
The 9768 MRO is based on the distributed eNodeB architecture; the 9768 MRO
integrates a single lightRadio™ technology and a full-sector Remote Radio Head (RRH)
into single compact unit that connects to an external 9926 BBU. The BBU, conventional
or clustered, may be located at the same site as the 9768 MRO or at a separate location.
The 9926 BBU is the digital processing component between the backhaul network and
the 9768 MRO. The BBU connection to the wired network is the “backhaul” portion of
the network architecture. The 9768 MRO connects to the 9926 BBU through an optical
fiber, using Common Public Radio Interface (CPRI) and supports CPRI daisy chaining
(supported in the future software releases), enabling multiple 9768 MROs to connect to
the 9926 BBU over the same optical cable. The 9768 MRO connection to the BBU is the
“fronthaul” portion of the network architecture. This architecture maximizes deployment
flexibility while optimizing the use of the 9926 BBU digital assets and connectivity costs.

Using 7705 SAR-O, the number of fibers required to connect multiple 9768 MROs can be
reduced. The 7705 SAR-O supports up to six 9768 MROs to be connected using either
one or two single mode dual fibers depending on the configuration. Optionally, this
configuration can be extended to connect a fourth 9768 MRO on each 7705 SAR-O unit
by ordering additional SFPs for the fourth port of each 7705 SAR-O unit. To support
eight CPRI connections, customer orderable 9926 BBU equipped with eCCM2 controller
card (support up to nine CPRI connections) is used.
For repair and replacement instructions, refer to the installation instructions provided with
the 7705 SAR-O installation kit or contact your local Nokia customer support team.
Power supply
The 7705 SAR-O does not require an external power supply (a passive unit).
Dimensions
The following table provides the dimensions of only the 7705 SAR-O.
Chassis
The 4-Wavelength CWDM Dual-Fiber variant of 7705 SAR-O is used for installation
with the 9768 MRO.
4-Wavelength CWDM Dual-Fiber
The 4-wavelength CWDM dual-fiber is used to drop and add four specific wavelengths
from the network. However, other wavelengths are allowed to pass through. This variant
can also add other wavelengths and allow a 1310-nm signal to pass through in the case of
a CWDM OADM linear 1310-nm application.
This variant is available in the following two models:
• 3HE07939AA - Used to add and drop 1471/1491/1511/1531-nm wavelengths
• 3HE07939BA - Used to add and drop 1551/1571/1591/1611-nm wavelengths.

Six 9768 MROs served by a single mode dual fiber configuration (Daisy-chained
7705 SAR-Os)
This configuration is same as six 9768 MROs served by two single mode dual fibers,
except that both 7705 SAR-O units are served by a single mode dual fiber. The first 7705
SAR-O unit’s Extension port is connected to the Line port of the second 7705 SAR-O
unit. The single mode dual fiber then connects the second 7705 SAR-O unit to a single
7705 SAR-8 unit, equipped with an 8-Channel OADM adapter card to support six 9926
BBU CPRI connections.
Figure 2-24 Six 9768 MROs served by a single mode dual fiber
Note: If required, this configuration can be extended to connect a fourth 9768 MRO
on each 7705 SAR-O unit by ordering additional SFPs for the fourth port of each
7705 SAR-O unit. See “SFPs for the fourth 7705 SAR-O connector” (p. 2-39). To
support eight CPRI connections, either customer orderable 9926 BBU equipped with
eCCM2 controller card (supports up to nine CPRI connections) or multiple 9926
BBUs can be used.
