Technical conventions
Lengths and other measurements are given in metric units, with non-metric units given as
equivalents for use in non-metric markets.
For manufactured parts, the following system of conventions is used:
• Metric sizes of nuts, bolts, flat washers, and lock washers are identified by an
uppercase letter M followed immediately by a size in millimeters (example: M6)
• American fractional sizes of nuts, bolts, anchor bolts, and washers are identified by a
number followed immediately by a double apostrophe (example: 3/8"). In the case of
lengths measured in feet, "2 feet" is used rather than "2'" so that the single apostrophe
is not overlooked.
The illustrations in this IP do not contain all details and exceptions, but are rather
intended to highlight main points. Dimensions are usually shown in millimeters, with
inches in parenthesis. As an example, 680.0 (26.77) equals 680 millimeters or 26.77
inches.

Specific safety hazards

Human irradiation by RF transmissions
The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) establishes and from time to time
revises guidelines for human exposure to RF electromagnetic fields in the USA. Its Office
of Engineering and Technology then publishes these guidelines in bulletins to allow
companies, such as Nokia, who develop products that transmit non-ionizing RF waves to
calculate safe human exposure distances, based on a corresponding amount of time spent
within those distances.

Safe separation distance

9768 MRO B13 (with integrated antenna)
The product complies with RF exposure limits of FCC Part 1.1310 Table 1 (B) Limits for
General Population/Uncontrolled Exposure.
The equipment must be installed and operated with a minimum separation distance as
stated in the following power levels and operational modes:

Table 1-1 RF safe distance for different power levels

500 mW 6.2 inches (15.8 5.7 inches (14.5 8.8 inches (22.34 8.3 inches (21
cm) cm) cm) cm)

At greater distances from the 9768 MRO, any duration of exposure is considered safe.
9768 MRO B13 and 9768 MRO B4 (without integrated antenna)
The maximum RF out power at the antenna terminal is 500 mW per transmit path.
In accordance with 47CFR1.1310, the criteria listed in table 1- Limits for Maximum
Permissible Exposure (MPE) is used to evaluate the environmental impact of human
exposure to radio frequency (RF) radiation.
The evaluation is based on EIRP. For 2 x 2 MIMO operation, the radiated power will be 2
x EIRP.

9768 MRO overview

Components
The Nokia 9768 Metro Radio Outdoor (9768 MRO) product integrates the antennas,
amplifier, transceivers and the RRH into a compact unit that connects to an external
macro Nokia 9926 Base Band Unit (9926 BBU), to deliver macro-like capacity to dense
urban hotspots, such as sports stadiums and shopping malls. The following bands are
supported
• B13 (700 MHz)
• B4 (AWS)

Technology
The Nokia 9768 MRO is based on Nokia Bell Labs lightRadio™ technology, which
brings together the latest innovations in antennas, amplifiers and transceivers, minimizing
size and improving RF performance.

Network architecture
The 9768 MRO is based on the distributed eNodeB architecture; the 9768 MRO
integrates a single lightRadio™ technology and a full-sector Remote Radio Head (RRH)
into single compact unit that connects to an external 9926 BBU. The BBU, conventional
or clustered, may be located at the same site as the 9768 MRO or at a separate location.
The 9926 BBU is the digital processing component between the backhaul network and
the 9768 MRO. The BBU connection to the wired network is the “backhaul” portion of
the network architecture. The 9768 MRO connects to the 9926 BBU through an optical
fiber, using Common Public Radio Interface (CPRI) and supports CPRI daisy chaining
(supported in the future software releases), enabling multiple 9768 MROs to connect to
the 9926 BBU over the same optical cable. The 9768 MRO connection to the BBU is the
“fronthaul” portion of the network architecture. This architecture maximizes deployment
flexibility while optimizing the use of the 9926 BBU digital assets and connectivity costs.

Installing the AC power cable
There are two possible options while installing the AC power cable - using a connector or
hardwire the power cord.
Perform the following steps if you are using a connector:
...................................................................................................................................................................................................

1 To terminate the unterminated end of the AC power cable, ensure that the plug used is
suitable to the environment of use. For example, in an uncontrolled outdoor environment,
use a waterproof plug that supports the supply voltage (120-V AC, 208-V AC, or 240-V
AC).
The cable may be cut down to length if the provided length of 14.7 ft (4.5 m) is more than
required. The plug must be provided by the customer.
...................................................................................................................................................................................................

2 Do not connect the far end of the power cord to the AC receptacle outlet or any other
power source until it is ready to turn on the 9768 MRO.
