Lesson Class #: Badminton Grade 9 and 10 Course Physical Education

PROGRAM OF STUDY OUTCOMES


 A9 – 2 consistently and confidently perform locomotor skills and combination of skills, by
using elements of body and space awareness, effort and relationships to a variety of
stimuli to improve personal performance
 A9 – 4 consistently and confidently perform non-locomotor skills by using elements of
body and space awareness, effort and relationships to a variety of stimuli to improve
personal performance
 A9 – 6 consistently and confidently perform manipulative skills by using elements of body
and space awareness, effort and relationship
 C9 – 5 develop practices that contribute to teamwork
 D9 – 1 participate regularly in, and realize the benefits of, an active lifestyle
LEARNING OBJECTIVES
At the end of the lesson students will be able to:
1. Execute the proper form as to how to hold a badminton racquet.
2. Implement backhand and forehand clears, as well as one of the two different types of
serves into a game situation.
3. Identify the rules of Badminton.
4. Implement the rules of Badminton into a game situation.
MATERIALS AND EQUIPMENT
 Birdies
 Racquets
 Badminton Nets
PREPARATION AND LOGISTICAL CONSIDERATIONS
 Gather the materials and equipment before the class and have them ready for when the
students arrive

PROCEDURE
Introduction Time
 Have them run 5 laps for a warm up
 Once the warm-up is over gather students to the middle to Introduce the
Badminton Unit
 Explain the types of assessments that we will be doing for the Badminton 7 mins
Unit. Skills Checklist, I will be choose up to 6 or 7 students a day and
assess them based on their skill and knowledge of the sport.
Participation/Effort, the same way Tyler assessed them
Body Time
Establish Self 1) Introduce myself – remind them of my name,
university student
2) Expectations: No swearing (5 push ups), If the racquet
is dropped (5 push ups), Attitude (have a good attitude
5 mins
while playing, sportsmanship (you must shake hands
with all players)
3) Rules Sheet – Basic rules, pyramid rules as well. If
sometime is not on that list come and ask me.

Tournament 1) Explain that we are going to continue the Badminton
Pyramid tournament for the remainder of the unit.
2) The games are only going to go to a score of 5 so the
games will go quicker. 30 mins
3) Read off the partners of doubles and mixed doubles.
Also have a printed off sheet so they have a
reference.
Conclusion Time
 Have the students put their racquet and birdies away and gather them to
the middle

 Ask them what the lines are for double and single games
 Have them go change for their next class
Assessment
 Observation – During each drill/activity I will be watching how the students are
participating and complete each part of the drill. This way I am also able to give
feedback to the students. Positive to those who are doing the drill correctly and
constructive to those who may need a little more help.
 Skills Checklist – I will choose a number of students a day and let them know I will
be coming up to them and assessing their skill and knowledge of the sport.
