– RN = 1.75[(E)^0.5][log10(N)] - 100
•RN in kips
•E in ft-lbs
•N is number of blows for 1 inch drive
•For allowable, suggested to use at least FS=2.5
and 3 in ground not well known.
• Suggest that you follow the English units, then convert to
SI.

“purists” as the “N” value is. Most do not
suggest its use – believing that CAPWAP
is better – and it appears to be so, but . . .

• When driving piles, it is sure a good way to


confirm, quickly, that things are as they
should be.
