Velocity & Acceleration Analysis

Two Method
•Instantaneous Center
Method ( I-Center)
•Relative Velocity
Concept .

Linear Velocity , V = Linear Displacement/time
(m/s )

Angular Velocity (W,Omega)= Angular Disp./Time

(Rad/sec)

I – Centre Method
• Instantaneous centre is one point about
which the body is seen in pure rotatory
motion.
• It is the point from which every body is
seen executing pure Rotational Motion
• The body executing Rotatory as well as
translatory motion can be termed as
general motion.

Ex . A body with 5 link will have
N = 5(5-1)/2 = 10
10 no of I-center

A body rotating with angular velocity
omega will have linear velocity in the
perpendicular direction to the axis of link

Klein's Construction
• It is used to find Velocity and acceleration of
links in Single slider crank mechanism
• This can be find out by doing in some
modification in the given configuration of

CORIOLIS COMPONENT OF
ACCELERATION
• When a point on one link is sliding along
another rotating link, such as in quick return
motion mechanism, then the coriolis
component of the acceleration is under
consideration
• It is Given by
a C = 2Vw
Where V= Velocity of Slider over the link
“w” is the angular velocity of link
You-Tube Channel - The GATE learners
Consider a link OA and a slider B as shown in Fig (a). The slider B moves along
the link OA. The point C is the coincident point on the link OA.
Let w= Angular velocity of the link OA at time t seconds.
v = Velocity of the slider B along the link OA at time t seconds.
r = Velocity of the slider B with respect to O (perpendicular to the
link OA) at time t seconds
