“Corrosion”

Corrosion is the reduction of metal equipment. In general corrosion can be classified

based on apparently, uniformity either microscopic or macroscopic. Two main types of corrosion
mechanisms are based on direct chemical reaction and the electrochemical reaction. Corrosion
could be called the destruction or degradation of the metal due to the reaction with the corrosive
environment. Corrosion can also be interpreted as an attack that damages the metal because
metal reacts chemically or electrochemically with the environment.

There are several types of corrosion based on the cause, such as atmospheric corrosion,
erosion corrosion and bacterial corrosion. atmospheric corrosion is the corrosion caused by the
electrochemical process between the two parts of solid objects, especially metal iron of different
potential and directly related to the air, erosion corrosion is the process of destruction of the
metal surface caused by fluid flow very quickly, while the corrosion of bacteria is Corrosion
influenced by microbial activity is an initiation or corrosion due to microbial activity and
corrosion processes.

In everyday life, corrosion can occur in different types of metals. Buildings and
electronic equipment that made from the metal components such as zinc, copper, iron-steel and
so on can be affected by this corrosion. Zinc for the roof can leak because corrosion . Corrosion
is a technical and serious scientific problem ,In economic Corrosion is also a problem because it
involves age, depreciation and efficiency of use of a material and equipment in industrial
activity.

Corrosion on metal is a phenomenon that can not be avoided, but can be inhibited or
controlled to reduce losses and prevent the negative impacts they cause. Corrosion control in
general, namely Prevent contact with oxygen and / or water, cathode protection, Making alloy or
metal alloy that is resistant to corrosion, Painting, smearing with oil , Wrapping with plastic, Tin
Plating, Galvanization, and others.
