“Riding in a Buggy” pg. 63
Objectives:
Students were able to…
Accurately sing rhythms
Accurately sing pitches

Accurately play rhythms on orff (xylophones)
Accurately play pitches on orff (xylophones)

Procedure:
Attendance bean bag warm-up with students
-Teacher will throw bean-bag at students in the form of a sigh/ siren
-Students will replicate sound
-Have students throw the bag back to the teacher, also making a sound
-Students replicate sound
Rules helper
Review Lucy Locket on solfege (la sol mi)
Practice signing la sol and mi (playing sol-la-mi, play on words salami)
Isolate parts that students don’t sing correctly
Repetition for solidified skills in sol, la, mi
Snail, Snail
-Have students stand up in their circle spots
-Students will hold hands
-Teacher will let go of one hand and lead students in a circular motion inside of the circle (creating the snail)
-Students will sing the song snail, snail with the teacher when they catch onto the melody
-Teacher will play one to two more times so the same student isn’t at the end of the line each time
Teacher will ask students to sing Snail, Snail on their own
-Teacher will write melody on the board
-Teacher will ask students if the melody looks like anything else they’ve learned
Work on sol-la-mi again, but using melody for Snail, Snail
Turn board over, show visual of what to keep on xylophones (E G A) and what to take off (C D F B)
Explain to students that they will take off bars from the top carefully so they do not rip the pegs off
Have students get into partners, sit with their partner
Have students come to get xylophones-- enter through middle of chairs, exit near desk
Ask the students how many notes they are playing
Ask students to find their middle, high, low note
Have students find letters that match sol, la, and mi
Sing letters out loud
Have students practice playing the melody
Break class into groups to play the song
Have half the students play, other half sing the notes that are being played
Have the students put their xylophones back together and help their partner bring the xylophone back to the teacher when
their name is called
If time…
Riding in a Buggy
-Have students come up with different things they would ride on, put object into song and have the students act it out.
