3D Shape Investigation – Design a Robot

WALT

We are learning to create/use nets to make prisms and pyramids.

CHALLENGE

Design and build your own colourful 3D robot out of recycled cardboard.

RULES

You must design and build your robot using prisms and pyramids.

Your robot must be no bigger than 30cm tall.

Your design must include at least 3 different types of pyramids and 3 different types
of prisms.

Make your robot colourful.

SUGGESTED MATERIALS

Cereal boxes or other thin cardboard

Scissors

Glue

PROJECT PLAN

1. Research – What are the properties of prisms and pyramids? Answer in your
Maths Books and provide examples.
2. Design your robot in your Maths Books making sure your robot is to scale. Label
the prisms and pyramids.
3. Create the nets for your 3D shapes remembering to add in details and colour.
4. Build your robot.
5. Reflect – What went well? What could have been improved? Would other shapes
have been better? Why / why not?
