The Advantages of Using Digital Textbooks in the English Classroom

Technology is part of everyone’s lives these days. More than this, children are considered
“digital natives”.1 They grow up in a world shaped by thechnology and teachers need to be one
step ahead them, though they fail sometimes. Educational consultant Mark Prenski made this
term famous in his article Digital Natives, Digital Immigrants. Teachers, most of them being
digital immigrants sometimes “are faced with classes of learners who may, on the surface at
least, appear to be more digitally competent than their teachers are. Learners can therefore
challenge their teachers, in ways that put the latter off using the technologies that could
potentially make such a difference to what happens in the classroom.”
Following the new curricula for secondary classes, students in Romania have started to use
digital books for allsubjects since September 2017. This is not a new thing for them, as this generation
has used digital books since the first grade,
