09:00 Victoria Harbour
Visit Duration: 1 hour

The establishment of Hong Kong as it exists today can be credited to the spectacular natural harbor, Victoria
Harbor, which lies between Hong Kong Island and Kowloon Peninsula. It is China's largest harbor and the 3
rdlargest in the world. The harbor covers 41.88km; within the harbor are several islands – Green Island, Little
Green Island, Kowloon Rock and Tsing Yi Island. The protected and deep waters of the harbor provide a
sheltered haven for ships along the South China Sea. For this reason the British first chose Hong Kong as a
perfect place to settle their colony. The harbor is a lifeline to Hong Kong and the entrance into the heart of
Asia for the constant stream of vessels which arrive here.

Over the years several reclamation projects have narrowed the harbor as land has been reclaimed from the
sea but it remains a powerful and functioning harbor. Being surrounded by heavily urbanized areas the harbor
provides a balance with natural vistas across the water. It is the site of tourist cruise excursions and of Image By: Base64

The harbor has been the site of several important battles as forces valued the harbor's strategic position.
Following the First Opium War in 1840 Hong Kong was ceded to Britain. In 1855 Taiping war boats prepared Address: Victoria Harbour, Hong Kong
to attack the Chinese imperial war boats which were defending the harbor but the British deterred the
Chinese, the confrontation was only deferred for a few years before the Arrow War broke out when the British
and French fought the Qing Dynasty. The harbor was named Victoria after Britain's Queen Victoria in 1861
following the Second Opium War when the Kowloon Peninsula was ceded to Britain.

For the best views of the harbor you can walk along the harbor promenade. The Symphony of Lights is a
spectacular light show projected from some of Hong Kong's skyscrapers and best viewed across the harbor.
The harbor can be seen from Victoria Peak and from Golden Bauhinia Square which is surrounded on three
sides by the harbor.

10:00 Clock Tower
Visit Duration: 30 mins
0.1 KM, 2 minutes walking from Victoria Harbour

The clock tower is a declared monument located along the Tsim Sha Tsui Promenade, at the end of Salisbury
Road overlooking Victoria Harbor on Kowloon's south shore. The clock is all that remains of the
Kowloon-Canton Railway Terminus which was the final stop along the Kowloon-Canton Railway. Construction
of the railway station was completed in 1916. The train operation and station were relocated to Hung Hom
Station in 1975 and the building demolished in 1977 while the tower remained the only part of the building
untouched. The tower was preserved as a reminder of the steam train era and of the many Chinese
immigrants who passed through this station to begin a new life in Hong Kong.

The tower is made of red brick and granite, it rises 44 meters from the ground with an additional 7 meters tall
lightning rod. The square tower is topped with a cylindrical belfry and a white dome. One of the clocks in the Image By: SuperFLoh

10:45 Tsim Sha Tsui Promenade
Visit Duration: 1 hour
1.1 KM, 15 minutes walking from Clock Tower

The Tsim Sha Tsui area is on the tip of Hong Kong's Kowloon Peninsula, the area is a popular tourist
attraction with plenty of restaurants, museums and stores. The Tsim Sha Tsui Promenade runs from the Star
Ferry Pier and Clock Tower to Hung Hom along the Victoria Harbor shore looking out towards Hong Kong
Island. The promenade stretches for 440 meters and is lined with some of the city's best attractions and
definitely one of the best views of the Hong Kong skyline. The promenade name is hard for foreigners to
pronounce so Tsim Sha Tsui is often abbreviated to TST Promenade. The promenade is also a great place to
watch the daily Symphony of Light show.

Hong Kong's version of the Hollywood Walk of Fame is located along the promenade, the Avenue of Stars,

length of the promenade there are nine red pillars inscribed with the story of Hong Kong film history going
back 100 years.

Among the attractions on the Tsim Sha Tsui Promenade are the Hong Kong Museum of Art; Hong Kong
Space Museum; Hong Kong Cultural Center; 1881 Heritage and the Clock Tower.

70% of the exhibits at this exciting museum are interactive hands-on exhibits, the museum holds
approximately 500 exhibits spread throughout 17 galleries and illustrating scientific and technological
wonders. Among the subjects touched on are light, sound, electricity, telecommunications, food science,
robotics, health, motion and home technology.

The highlight of the museum is an Energy Machine which stands in an open space between the galleries
occupying the vertical space of four stories. The Energy Machine is the largest of its kind in the world and
consists of metal two tower structures. When activated the machine produces kinetic energy which moves
large balls along a rollercoaster-type track up and down both towers creating an entertaining audio-visual
display. Image By: Tszho1997

Visit Duration: 1 hour

The Ngong Ping Piazza is located adjacent to Ngong Ping Village located at the Ngong Ping 360 cable car's
upper station on Lantau Island. The Piazza covers 15,000m² and it blends in with the nearby attractions
offering a link between the area's sites like the Big Buddha, Po Lin Monastery and the Wisdom Path. There
are four parts to the Piazza: The New Pai Lau, a tall archway at the Piazza entrance which represents
tranquility and was designed in the Qing Dynasty style; the 120 meter long Bodhi Path, a path between the
Pai Lau entrance and Di Tan, lined with the figures of the 12 Divine Generals that represent the 12 signs of
the zodiac and each figure guards a 2 hour period during the day; Di Tan, the Earth Temple where there is a
lotus pond which marks the center of the Piazza and the Chinese Landscaped Garden.

Each element of the Piazza was designed specifically to blend in, or complement an existing site on the
mountain top. For example the entrance arch was designed in the Qing Dynasty style to complement the style Image By: Mk2010

The Lantau Island cable car together with an entertainment and shopping area at the upper station of the
cable car called Ngong Ping Village constitutes this site. The main function of the Ngong Ping gondola service
is to bring visitors from Tung Chung to the hill top area where the island's large Buddha statue and famous
Monastery are located. Thanks to the construction of the cable car visitors no longer have to take the
mountain road up to the sites. The gondola/cable car opened in 2006 after several years of planning and 2
years of construction and trail runs. In 2009 Crystal Cabin service was introduced using glass-bottom cabins
so that today travelers can choose between the glass-bottom or regular gondola cabins.

13:15 Big Buddha and Po Lin Monastery
Visit Duration: 1 hour, 30 mins

The Po Lin Monastery was an obscure retreat hidden among the mountain top vegetation on Lantau Island,
Ngong Ping, until the Tian Tan Buddha or Big Buddha was erected in 1993. The huge figure is 34 meters high
(and that's in addition to the fact that it already towers over the city from the mountain top); weighs 250 tons
(22,6796kg) and is made of bronze. The statue faces north and the inclination of its head with the eyes
looking down gives the impression that the figure is really looking down on the people below. The right hand
of the Buddha is raised as if he were blessing someone. The Buddha took 12 years to build and was
completed in 1993. It is the largest Buddha of this kind in the world. Below the Buddha statue are three levels
of exhibition space.

15:00 Wisdom Path
Visit Duration: 1 hour, 30 mins
0.9 KM, 13 minutes walking from Big Buddha and Po Lin Monastery

The Wisdom Path is located on Lantau Island, just a short walk from the island's main attraction, the Big
Buddha, and nestled in the verdant hills of Ngong Ping. It consists of 38 timber steles which line a pathway
leading to the top of a hill where there are brilliant views across the island and the South China Sea. The
monument blends perfectly in the natural surroundings. The steles are arranged in a pattern which forms the
figure 8, the sign for infinity. The stele or obelisks are between 2.5 to 3 meters tall, thin, upright, rectangular
monuments. The wooden steles are engraved with the best known Buddhist sutras (prayers) the
Prajna-Paramita Heart Sutra. This prayer is considered sacred by Buddhists, Taoists and Confucians. The
Chinese version appears on the stele based on the calligraphy style of a modern scholar, Professor Jao
Tsung-I. The monument was a gift to the city of Hong Kong from the Professor who was inspired by Buddhist
stone carvings on Mt. Taisham in Shandong, mainland China. Image By: Bridget Coila

17:15 Tai O
Visit Duration: 2 hours
7.4 KM, 0 minutes by transit from Wisdom Path

This quaint village is located on the coast of Hong Kong's largest island, Lantau Island. The small village is
framed by a backdrop of mountains. Tai O is a traditional fishing village inhabited by the Tanka people,
fishermen by trade who live in unique homes along the water's edge. The Tanka houses are constructed on
stilts and are interconnected. This is one of the few remaining examples of this type of traditional Chinese
home in the Hong Kong area. This intimate living arrangement creates a tight knit community. The Tanks
have a deep connection with the water, not only do they make their living from fishing but their homes are
literally above the water.

A creek divides Tai O in two and a relatively new drawbridge, Sun Ki Bridge, joins the two sides of the creek.

09:00 Chun Yeung Street (Wet Market)
Visit Duration: 1 hour, 30 mins

There are several Hong Kong wet markets, each offering a glimpse into another era which survives despite
the advent of modern supermarkets and stores. Chun Yeung Wet Market is one of the best, and can be easily
accessed from the North Point Tram Termal on Hong Kong Island and the tram routes go straight down the
wet market road. The market area was once known as Little Shanghai and today the main residents are from
Fuji. Wet markets get their name from the fact that food, fish and meat are sold here so that the floor
constantly needs to be washed down, hence "wet." The Chun Yeung Street market is a street market, made
up of open front stores and stalls.

Permanent stores open their store fronts and spill onto the sidewalk while other vendors have opened stalls
along this road. You can get all kinds of goods here and locals often do their day-to-day food, vegetable and
house hold goods shopping here. Some of the more interesting sites is the fresh fish, meat and spice stores Image By: Mk2010

2.0 KM, 26 minutes walking from Chun Yeung Street (Wet Market)

Causeway Bay is an area on Hong Kong Island concentrated around Tung Lo Wan Road, it is one of the
most expensive real estate locations in the world and known for its shopping district. The area began as a
fishing village, evidence of this can be seen in the typhoon shelter and the Tin Hau Temple. With the addition
of reclaimed land the area grew rapidly, one of the many changes to the coastline was the inclusion of Kellett
Island as part of Hong Kong Island. The British sold part of the land to the British conglomerate Jardines,
hence the name Jardine's Bazaar and Jardine's Crescent. Today the Causeway area runs to Canal Road and
borders the Eastern District and Wan Chai District in the west.

Causeway Bay is considered a microcosm of all Hong Kong shopping options, you'll find high-end luxury
stores, flea markets and every kind of store in-between. Among the stores in Causeway Bay is Sogo, a 13 Image By: Mstyslav Chernov

Hong Kong Park opened in 1991; it covers an area of 80,000m² and is located along Cotton Tree Drive in
central Hong Kong. The design of the park aimed to blend the natural landscape into the green space and
also provide modern recreational facilities and cultural points of interest.

Several Grade II historic buildings which stood on the site before the park's construction remain including the
Flagstaff House (1846) which houses the Flagstaff House Museum of Teaware; the former Cassels Block
British barracks which now houses the Hong Kong Visual Arts Center; Rawlinson House the former home of
the British Deputy General; the Wavell House a former British barracks which has been converted into the

In the Museum of Tea Ware there is a collection of ceramic tea ware – teapots, teacups, saucers etc as well
as Chinese seals. Some of the ceramics date back to the Jin Dynasty with the oldest articles as old as 1,300
years. The collection includes examples like the Yixing teapot from the Jiangsu Province; this is thought to be
the world's oldest teapot. Visitors can see a traditional tea ceremony and watch instructional videos about

Visit Duration: 1 hour, 30 mins
1.8 KM, 29 minutes walking from Museum of Tea Ware

This street is in a neighborhood where you can find stores selling a wide range of dried products including
medicines, plants, foods and of course fish. The street is located in the Sheung Wan District and the real
name of the street is Des Voeux Road West. The tradition of selling dried goods began here about 50 years
ago when salted fish were the main product on offer. There are about 200 shops on the Dried Seafood Street.
Each shop displays their range of dried seafood in see though jars, crates, on tables and handing from the
ceiling. You can see dried scallops, shark fins, shrimps, jellyfish, abalone, salted fish, sea cucumber,
seaweed and even slugs. In addition there are dried mushrooms, black moss, dried snakeskin, dried fish
skins, oysters, clams, ginseng, herbs, Chinese sausages and Chinese dried tea. Dried ingredients are
common in Chinese cooking and traditional medicine; for this reason the street becomes crowded around the
time of Chinese New Year when locals come to buy ingredients to use in their traditional holiday dishes. In Image By: MutHwaBC

Visit Duration: 1 hour
4.5 KM, 0 minutes by transit from Dried Seafood Street

Victoria Peak is the name of a mountain on the main island of Hong Kong; it is also called Mt. Austin and
"The Peak." The mountain reaches 552 meters and is the island's highest peak. The main attraction of the
mountain is the view from the slopes. While the summit is off limits to the public (a radio telecommunications
facility occupies the summit), the slopes are covered with parks and attractions as well as some of the most
expensive real estate in Hong Kong.

In 1868 Governor Sir Richard MacDonnell had his summer home built here and from 1904 to 1947 Victoria
Peak was reserved exclusively as a residential area for expatriates. The Peak Hotel opened on the mountain
in 1873 but was destroyed by fire in 1938. With the implementation of the tram routes in 1888 running up the
mountain the area gained more visitors and traffic. Image By: Richard Fisher
