April in Bloom

Dear Friends and Family, May 14, 2018

Hello everyone! I hope and trust this finds you all well! I am currently in England preparing to share
this evening and I am reflecting on the goodness of God. For those who answered the plea and
gave generously I am extremely grateful. Thank you so much! The gap between the need and the
resources available has shrunk tremendously! I would love to share with all of you some pictures
and stories from this past trip into the jungle of Papua New Guinea.

Here is a sunset in the Gulf from the YWAM

PNG ship. I traveled into jungle by ship this time
and before “jumping” ship I trained another
clinic leader for the lab on board. With so many
things all ready planned this coming year, this
trip on the ship was the only time I could be on
board this year. As I pondered this I was
reminded about how many new things are
allowed to spring forth much like when we are
watching a sunset, the sun is rising else where!

Just another day J here I am on my way to

Kikori. I have parted the ship and we are on one
of the few “canoes” from Kapuna Rural Hospital.
This past outreach the YWAM PNG ship served
the communities with eye surgeries. Here is one
of our friends behind me excited with restored
vision and on her way home near Kikori. She
literally smiled and laughed the entire ride (5hrs)
in awe to all that she was seeing. It was
precious to hear her say, “Look!...”

So many reasons I love this picture…it is taken

inside the new lab at Kapuna Rural Hospital that
I has the privilege to open last November.
Before it was built the microscopes were on the
porch of the ward where we often had to use
umbrellas, sheets and sun blockers to shield out
the sun to see correctly through the scope. The
one at the scope is one of our newest recruits,
Helen, and she is so eager to learn! It is such a
joy to see local Papua New Guineans learning
new skills! Here Helen is learning different blood
cell types

This next photo deserves a larger explanation…just to be clear, I have been given permission to
share her story and her picture and this family truly needs your prayers. Those who serve in
missions will relate to this, when you are called into this life of adventure, you end up serving in all
capacities with all your gifts, and with all that God has led you through. One of the journeys I have
traveled involved dealing with the aftermath of trauma after years of being abused by my father
and raised in a chaotic at best home. I serve for the most part as a scientist, one that comes to
train and equip others to do what I do…but often the Lord chooses to use my story to bring hope
and healing to those who have been raped, abused and recovering from the most awful event in
their life. During this past trip into the bush, I met a precious family. The young girl in the picture
below had just given birth to a beautiful baby boy. Unfortunately this child was not the result of love
but of rape and the mother was young, not quite 13. The family was reeling and very confused. It
was a privilege to spend time with them and encourage how to walk in forgiveness. While we were
chatting, I discerned they did not know the Jesus I knew. So, we prayed and all of them received
Jesus as a their Lord and Savior. At this moment they are praying and still in the early stages of
healing. They are also currently praying about how to best care for their daughter and grandson.
Would you please join with me in prayer that God’s best is reached for everyone in the family? I
am hoping to give an update in my next newsletter about this…so stay tuned!

What’s next?? Well, after teaching here I will be traveling back to Vanuatu where we will be
preparing and opening a new training center. Please continue to be praying for the logistics,
building, and needed supplies and staff for this endeavor! Thank you all so much for all that you
each have given and praying for me! Love you all!

Love,

April J
