Te re Liye's Life Before Writing

Tere Liye's past is not widely known. However, from some articles about Tere Liye's
profile or biography related to his childhood it is known that he is the son of a farmer. He was
born on 21 May 1979 in the interior of South Sumatra.

He is the sixth child of seven brothers who grew up in a simple family. The childhood life
that passes with great simplicity makes it a simple person to this day.
The figure looks not much style and stay humble in life. Tere Liye received
elementary education at SDN 2 Kikim Timur, South Sumatra.
Then he continued his education to SMPN 2 Kikim, South Sumatra. After that, his
senior high school was spent at SMAN 9 Bandar Lampung.
While studying high, he wandered to the land of Java by attending one of the best
universities namely University of Indonesia and college at the Faculty of Economics. History
education is able to describe the figure of people who have intelligence so no wonder if his
works became so phenomenal.
Synopsis:
Mother Dear Mother of God (Tere-Liye)

This book tells the story of Melati, a blind and deaf six year old girl, which means
automatic mute. This book also tells about Karang, a young man who has a dark past. The
story is mixed. The book begins when Mother HK, her mother Melati, dreams of being
awakened by her son. Also told how adorable Melati is when he wakes his mother. However,
for some reason, Mother HK even cry. Apparently, this is all a dream. When Mother HK
woke up, she saw her daughter was angry again. At the same time, in one of the houses in the
corner of town, the Reef fell asleep again. The fat mothers can only stroke the chest. Always
so since 3 years ago. Coral goes out at night, goes to the bar for drinks, goes home early,
sleeps till night again. However, the fat mother's mother did not know was a dream
experienced by the Coral. Almost every sleep Karang dreamed of something the same. He
dreamed of what happened 3 years ago. The incident that made him almost jailed. In the past,
Reefs were street children picked up by fat mothers. Years later, Karang set up a reading
garden. one day, Karang invites the children's garden care reading is sailing. The Coral does
not know, the storm is almost coming. When they were almost home, the storm hit. Of the 30
children who left, only 12 children survived. One of the unsaved children is Qintan. Qintan
used to be a paralyzed kid from the waist down. However, because of the story of the Coral,
there was a deep desire in Qintan. Make it stand up and run without the help of a stick. Along
with the sinking of the ship, the HK family (family Melati) was on vacation at a beach. While
playing, Melati was hit by a freesbe thrown on her forehead. Initially, Melati just fell down.
However, upon their return from the beach, Melati began to show strange symptoms. After
being examined by a doctor, Melati is blind and deaf. For three years, the HK family has
called various doctors. However, nothing can cure Melati. The last team of doctors even said
Melati is crazy, because Melati has bitten the finger of one of the doctors until the doctor's
finger was almost broken. Desperate, Mother HK finally got a fever and called the family's
private doctor. After a while, there came a doctor. Apparently, Ryan's doctor, the family's
personal physician, was on the go. The one who came to the HK family home was Kinasih,
the son of Ryan's doctor who had just finished college in medical school. After learning about
the state of Jasmine, Kinasih remembered her friend who set up a reading garden with her
many years ago. As far as Kinasih, her friend is in this city. A few days later, Karang
received a letter from the HK family. However, Coral is reluctant to open it. Reefs let the
letters piled up, so the Mother HK finally came to Coral's house. Because the Mother of HK
only knew about the Karang of Kinasih, while Kinasih herself did not know the final state of
the Coral, Mother HK was shocked by the circumstances of the Coral. Initially, Mother HK
became pessimistic in the face of Coral, however, a mother's wish that her child back to
normal beat all that. Despite having been invited by the Mother of HK, Karang still refused.
However, that night, when Karang wanted to go to the bar where he used to get drunk, he saw
two old beggars stolen by a group of street children. When Karang was about to help the two
beggars, Karang was shocked. Because, both people have a disability. The first one is blind,
while the second is deaf and dumb. Coral re-remember the state of Jasmine. He decided to
come to HK family home. The next day, Karang went to HK family home. Apparently, how
to teach Coral is not approved by Mr. HK. Coral finally went from the house. However,
before Karang left, Coral said something that shocked Mother HK again. Previously, Mother
HK was shocked by the words of Coral that he said when refusing Mother HK at home fat
mothers. Karang said "even now surely the mother's daughter is breaking two glass
windows!". When Mother HK came home, she saw Salamah and 8 other HK family personal
helpers, cleaning up the remains of two glass windows that Melati smashed. Now, Karang
tells in detail the events that caused the Melati defect. In fact, the incident was only known by
the HK family and their aides. Finally Karang accepted by Mr. HK. For five days Coral tries
to teach Jasmine one thing: wearing a spoon. However, on the fifth day, Salamah fad cleared
the Coral room. Though formerly Karang has forbidden anyone to enter her room.

Characterization:
• Jasmine
The character of jasmine Cheers, ignorant & stubborn
"Mother, wake up! It's early ... "Jasmine shouted as he did
jumped merrily onto the king-size bed. Laugh. (pp. 4)
"Mother, Wake up! Mother Kesaiangan, ya! "Jahil! Jasmine pulled her mother blanket.
Yell again. Laughed again. Crawling closer. Take out a feather chicken (earned yesterday
from Mang Jeje, the gardener). Ignorant! (p.5)
"BA .... BAAA .... MAAA" Yell again. Jasmine banging on the dining table. Angry. (p. 56)
• Mother
Mother's character is patient and steadfast
"Are you awake, dear?" Mother asked weakly, trying to smile, though the whole world
knew that smile was useless. (p. 14)
 "Fight, my son! Mother please. Do not give up! Mother whispered silently. Bowed. (pp. 83)
• Coral
The character of the Coral is rough, firm & loving
"USE DOWNLOAD!" "SPOON, MELATI !!!" (pp. 136)
"The reef brushed the little girl's curls in her arms, kissed her, then stood holding the
little girl up, heading for the dining room door." (p. 146)
• Kinasih
The character of Kinasih is kind and compassionate.
"It's been a week, Bun. Actually two days ago I was willing to visit, visit ... But there is
still a need to take care of the practice license. Kinasih miss Mother. Kangen Jasmine.
Kangen Tuan HK. Even I also miss Salamah cooking! "The veiled girl called Kinasih
laughed, turned to Salamah who was still busy glancing at the firefly dance out there. (p.34)
"Jasmine will be fine, Bun .... If Mother remains convinced, then she will surely be

The character of Salamah is forgetful and faithful

The character of Mr. HK is a firm and loving character "WHAT YOU DO!" Mr. HK

fight with this unfortunate guest. Just five minutes in the dining room, dare to slam his

33. Flow: Forward-Backward / Mixed
• Beginning:
In a city there is a wealthy family. That is, HK family. They have a beautiful child,
bolamatanya jet black like a fruit lecy, his hair wavy like a wave. Her name is Jasmine.
Sweetie Melati can not see and hear. Every day Jasmine always rage, especially at
breakfast. He threw all the stuff in front of him.
• Middle:
Mother HK can not bear to see children just every day rampage. Mother HK is told
there is someone who can help that is Coral. Unfortunately to persuade the Coral is not
easy, initially rejected the reef offer Mother HK. The reef is still immersed in the sense of
remorse and past, the moment when the accident occurred and the fostering of 18 children

luluh. Coral accepted Bunda HK's offer to educate Melati. It turns out that educating
Jasmine is not as easy as Coral imagines. The attitude of Melati forces the Coral to be

Because of the patience and patience of Mother of HK and diligence of Karang to
educate Melati and Melati struggle, Melati finally get to know his god, Melati can control
his emotions and jasmine can know his mother

• Atmosphere:

Advantages :
The author creates the character of Melati, Mother and Coral in each indistinguishable
figure which is more deserved to be called the main character. Here really feel the existence
of three main characters who have the same position as agents of sufferers, agents of change,
and the agent of enlightenment. It awakens us that man in his own position is actually playing
an important role in real life.
This story presents an easy life struggle experienced by children. Whether it is an
orphaned or Melati Coral with all its shortcomings. But there is one similarity between them,
the children always have a better future promise.
The author repeatedly reveals a sentence that reminds the reader to be patient and grateful
"Life is just, truly God is Just, we are too ignorant to know where His justice is, but that does
not mean that God is unjust".
Deficiency :
The story is written in a non-standardized everyday style. The repeated use of non-
standard vocabulary and additional sentences that do not necessarily interfere with reading
comfort. Like the use of the word "fat mothers" which means pointing to a fertile mother and
the word "children" for the appointment of a child's noun.
The choice of writers in the placement of settings and supporting activities in the novel
was not quite right. In the novel all the characters are portrayed as Muslims with all their
activities and attributes, but at the ending of the story the author creates a fireworks party
atmosphere which is celebrated on Chinese New Year by the public including the novel
characters. Instead of mentioning clearly the city or state of the occurrence of events in the
novel, from the beginning the author only mentions fake places: "house on the hill", "area
away from the capital", "Mr. and Mother HK". So there is no clear cultural diversity or the
majority of the culture of the inhabitants in the area where Melati characters live, so there is
no reason to be right if the author suddenly incorporated one of the annual activities of the
Melati family to celebrate Chinese New Year.
The value of education in this novel exists three, that is;
a) the value of religious education includes: worship, prayer, and be grateful;
b) the value of moral education includes: not despair, confidence, patience, logical thinking,
self-control, and good prejudice;
c) the value of education social includes: affection, appreciation, loyalty, and
encouragement
Mandate:
Everyone must have flaws. Do not let the shortage that makes us despair. Keep trying and
Do not give up, as long as we want to try there must be a way.
