Summer Art Residency Program

GAPS

•  Lack of summer art residency program/boot camp in collaboration with


tertiary art institutions.

•  Occasionally, ratio of participating students in art programs are based on


merit
INITIATIVE

2 week Art Residency Program (AIR) anchored on Contemporary Visual Arts


OBJECTIVE

•  To support students at an early stage of their art making

•  To introduce and allow early exposure and involvement in artist residency


program

•  To emphasise the creative process and experience rather than the final
product during the program

•  To make this program accessible to a wider range of students iregardless of


merit
NICHE

•  First initiated residency program nationwide for primary 5 students

•  Focuses on materiality ( which will allow participants to investigate into the


nature of things via object materiality and also reframe their meaning)
LEARNING OUTCOME

•  Students gain a new level of appreciation for the arts combined with an increased
level of understanding of several art forms targeted by the residency

•  Students will think divergently and creatively while communicating effectively


through the arts

•  Students will manage, access, process, evaluate and present information


aesthetically for a variety of audiences

•  Students will be able to use various art forms, skills, language and techniques as a
means of formulating, exploring and expressing ideas, perceptions and feelings
PROGRAM STRUCTURE

2 week Art Residency Program (AIR)

Duration: 2 weeks
Art forms: Visual Arts, Dance and Music
Venue: LaSalle College of the Arts
Student-Instructor Ratio: 1:20

•  This gives an opportunity to for participants to be exposed to new ideas and getting out of
their comfort zone

•  These trips may induce the students to have a deeper appreciation for the Arts
which in turn spark creative moments.

Compare and Contrast


•  Artworks in exhibit can differ in subject matter, and techniques demonstrated
which can foster interesting conversations which also leads to critical thinking skills

Creates Lifelong Learners

•  Curiosity is one aspect to move forward and become lifelong learners.


APPROACH

•  Materials offer traces of the creative process and evidence of an artist’s thoughts,
explorations and struggles. Such traces can imbue an object with a richness and
honesty, allowing the viewer an insight into the act of making. (challenges that they
may face during the process)

•  In bringing students’ works together that are representative of a wide range of


stylistic approach, this graduation exhibition explores ways in which students have
revelled in the materiality of their chosen mediums
MAJOR PROJECTS

Studio Project – Assemblage (Solo)

Students to put together a composition using random materials given which may not
necessarily contain meaning.

Relationship and Coherence between various materials
Own twist to composite

Mural Painting – (Group)


Students will come together to create large mural paintings at Winstdet Campus.

Opportunity to work on large scale

GRADUATION

Graduation on Friday of week II

Their artistic achievement is recognised this curated exhibit. This will enable
them to develop their voice and identity and boost confidence. This is a
celebration for their creativity and critical thinking through this 2 week
program.

Indemnity Form

•  Lunch will be provided within the compound of Lasalle Campus

•  Buses will be provided to and fro from Lasalle campus external activities

Materials

•  Scissors will cutting tool. Penknives will not be provided


TECHNOLOGY

•  Students will be highly encourage to use their headphones during certain


intervals to document the process of art making and their experience.

•  A digital sketchbook

•  Digital form of reflection (blog/form)
